Polanco Mexican Restaurant and Cantina — Restaurant in Slinger

Went last night for a family dinner of 6, and I would not recommend this place. We had a reservation, but we were one of 4 tables in the whole building, and we still had to wait over and over again for service. We had to ask 3 separate times for chips, and never once got a drink refill during the 2 hour dinner. 5 out of 6 of us got our food, and the 6th had to wait another 10 minutes for their food, but when she got it it was the wrong menu item and ingredients. She sent it back, and the hostess said it would just be a couple minutes and they would take it off our bill for the inconvenience. 10 Minutes later she got her order, but still was not what she had ordered, but was at least the proper meat so we asked for it to go since all of us were done eating, and ready to go. The Bill came, and the meal was still on the bill, so we nicely asked about it and maybe we miss heard. She took it to her boss, and he came back with the server, and said that the "Owner" would not allow it to be comped because we are taking it home! Keep in mind the order was still not what she wanted. He told us because the server messed up that they would take it off the bill, and the server would be required to pay for it to make us feel guilty! The server was almost in tears, so we gave her cash that she would have to take out of her pocket! In no world should a owner require the servers to pay for such a simple mistake that could of just been rectified with a proper apology. We are a very easy going family, and have all worked and managed restaurants, and we are just amazed that this would be the owners policy. I have never left a bad review but after the way the manager treated us we feel this needs to be addressed...

I was excited to have a nice dinner at a new place with my adult children! We were enjoying the company and chatting so we overlooked the slower service and possible language barrier! It took a long time to get order taken..asked for chips a few times and never had refills or visit from waitress. Food was ok..nothing extraordinary that would go out of my way for~

The night took a terrible turn when one of our meals was wrong and remade multiple times..complete wrong meal. The host told us they would make the correct meal and take off bill! I thanked him but when we go the bill it was still on so I questioned if I misunderstood! The manager came out once and thew the server under the bus blaming her and saying she was new she had no support... He proceeded to tell us that since we were taking the food in a TO GO box because by the time we got the food everyone was done eating...we would need to pay for it. We gave them the food back and they took it!

This is when I couldn't believe what happened....the manager came out ..took the food and said the waitress would have to pay for the food they took off bill!! I have never heard of this....and it was not her fault and no one supported her! Manager was quite loud about his statement and rude like it was our fault~ soo...we did not get the food....I paid for the meal and a good tip for the waitress AND my son gave her cash cus we were afraid she would not get the tip! We took care of the waitress and dropped 150 bill for mediocre food and terrible management! I cant be upset with service as it appears management doesn't train properly. My server was great. My server was an older Hispanic man. I kinda waited too long before my server came. No one came around so I could order a drink and appetizer. It took my server a while to get comfortable and in the groove. He eventually did a great job of serving me and communicating.

I started with a drink called Dirty Horchata. It was cream, rum, espresso, cold brew topped with whipped cream, served over crushed ice. It was huge and creamy! This could count as dessert.

For the appetizer, Taquitos Chiquitos, they were rolled up tortillas, filled with chicken and fried. They were crispy and tasty. One of the sauces made me tear up. Don't know which one but it hit me out of nowhere.

I ordered Coctel de Camerones, Mexican style shrimp cocktail, shrimp tossed in a sauce with onion, cilantro, avocado, and citrus juice. It came in a large shrimp cocktail bowl, garnished with large shrimp, orange and lime wedges.

I wanted to try Ensalada de Nopales, cactus leaves salad. I asked my server about the size of the salad, he said it was too big and too much food for a single diner.

My server was right, after all the taquitos and Dirty Horchata and some the shrimp cocktail, I was full. I couldn't eat anymore. I couldn't finish the shrimp cocktail, I had to take the rest home.

The atmosphere was great, lots of decorations and pretty lights all over the place. Outdoor seating. Very friendly and helpful wait staff.
