Pete’s — Restaurant in Smith Center

We stopped by after lunch hours and it was pleasant, there were still other people there but it wasn't crowded or loud. We were able to have a conversation. It was clean. The staff was nice and helpful with the menu when we had questions on a dish. I picked the 'pulled pork philly' with coleslaw. The coleslaw was less sweet and more peppery than the basic recipes. Do try it. Husband had the 'chicken fried steak' with the pasta side. Said the gravy was lumpy looking but had a great taste. These cheese curds had an amazing breading on it that made me think of the cheddar biscuits from Red Lobster, but better. Absolutely amazing. Definitely in the top five of bbq places I've ever been. To start off, it was very clean, and quiet music wise (I went on Friday evening). The waitress was very helpful and nice. The food came very fast. The food is what really sold the place to me. The pork was well seasoned, juicy and tender. The fries were the best I've had in a long time. They came out seasoned nicely. After a long day of driving and exploring on a photography trip and skipping lunch, finding Pete's was like a blessing from the Lord. I had the Brisket burrito with coleslaw and a piece of coconut pie. The burrito and pie were stellar, coleslaw was OK but I compare all coleslaw to my mother in laws which can't be beat. Our server was friendly and helpful and "Pete" (Brady the owner) was able to answer so many questions about the area for us and even directed us to some additional kitschy roadside attractions we had missed...
