I’m sad to write this! Read all….First visit was amazing everything we got was perfect. My celiac wife was so happy that she found a place to eat at. A person from worktold me about it and it was highly recommended. The second visit was good, but could’ve been way better. After we drove The hour and 20 minutes there and back we got home. We are looking at all the food that we just ordered $150 worth and noticed something weird on the calzone after taking it off the calzone looking at it. We realized that it was a tip to a glove. So that means one of the kitchen workers lost a tip to their glove and it was on top of the food so we called. Had a bunch of questions And got a bunch of answers after the end of the conversation we were refunded, but the Calzone. Didn’t really want a refund just wanted to make it known that this happened, but I appreciated it and I thanked her lot. So the next day, we decide to go back because my wife Really likes the burgers. She put her order in and again we spent like another 50 bucks on food. This time we got to the car and check the food. Her burger had toppings on it which we specialty ordered. No toppings. My wife can’t eat the toppings so I went back inside to see what could be done. Well they made me another burger, my way for the annoyed with me at this point because she didn’t want one now. Well, I waited and everybody was very friendly but once I got the new burger, same issue all the toppings on top of the burger. The first burger ordered no toppings and with this burger, I just said toppings on the side like they did with the sauce. But there was toppings all over the burger, knowing my wife would not eat it. I got very annoyed. I told him that they could keep it I did not want it. I told them they could throw it away because once my wife sees that she’s gonna be more upset with me she was upset with me because I was inside trying to get her new one because she was just so upset about it that she wanted to leave. So at this point the only way I could return the Blackies as if they made the menu online with an option to de-select toppings. Because this is now three incidents in a row, and it mind blown me that it was one after the other with the burgers. I could keep going, but this review is already very long until they make it easier for people To choose their toppings or not choose them I can’t see myself Eating there. So all that stuck through this whole review thank you I hope it helps. I will leave it on this note. If you are a picky eater because you have a disease just beware that your food might...
Read moreBlackie's in Smithfield RI Well let me just say right from the get go this place was recommended by many. I don't usually start off a review like this. But as an Upholsterer that has worked in and around restaurant design. This is by far one of the most beautiful restaurants I have been in. Not only just the design of it, but also for the quality of the interior and everything in it. From the marble top tables with cast iron bases to the extremely well made booth seating and chairs. The light fixtures were simply elegant. Without a doubt it was probably the nicest men's room I have ever been in. I was told by our waitress that the owner designed the restaurant. Well she certainly knew what she was doing. We were greeted at the entrance and early for our reservation. They said not an issue and we were seated within minutes and our waitress was it the table as soon as we sat down. We ordered and it seems the high point of the menu is option. This meaning many of the entrees seem to be available in gluten free, and other diet restrictions as well. They also add the option theme in other ways. Our Buffalo chicken dip came with either tortilla chip or hand cut potato chips or a little of each. It was also available with veggies as well. I ordered fish and chips and the options continued, two pieces of fish, or one piece with three battered jumbo shrimp. I went with the second. The food was very delicious and our waitress Lauren was beyond attentive. Checking on us numerous times and then conversating with us at the end of our meal making sure everything was to our liking. She was great along with the rest of the staff, everyone seemed pleasant and happy to be there. A side note was that it is a family restaurant and we were seated between two families both with multiple children under the age of five. Without a doubt I would give those parents five stars. All the children were extremely behaved and under control the entire time we were there. Kudo to them. This was a great experience and checks off all the boxes of a very well run restaurant. Both Stephanie and I we extremely pleased with the service, the food, and the gorgeous interior of Blackie's. I would without a doubt recommend a visit if you have not gone. Thank you to our waitress Lauren for a great first experience and exceptional service. Plenty of parking and easily handicapped accessible. Beautiful place. A special shout out to the owner for having wonderful taste as far as design and quality of both the interior and exterior of this establishment. ⚓⚓⚓⚓⚓ Five...
Read moreI stopped in at Blackie's after a few years having stayed away. It wasn't that I ever had a bad experience, but I did take some issue with the colossal stack that was their "nearly inedible unless you could unhinge your jaw" approach to burgers they were taking back then.
So, I figured it has been a while and trends have changed, and maybe they would have a good burger. I remembered liking their flavour profiles, so I took the plunge.
I started with a mocktail, which I was glad to see on the menu. As a person who does not drink alcohol, having something special and fancy to drink is a great treat.
I decided to get a No-quito - coconutty, creamy, frosty, and cinnamony, it was like a really sophisticated milk shake. Perfect to go with something burgery.
For my entree, I chose the Chimmy Chopped Cheese and I Don't Care. With the name, I wasn't sure what I'd be getting aside from a sandwich. It was right beneath the burgers and the description mentioned burger, so I anticipated a cheese burger with stuff on it.
What I got was next level.
On a grinder type bun, this little masterpiece was the best sandwich I have had in years. Hamburg chopped together with cheeses, accompanied by such AWESOME toppings as fried plantain and jalapeños, I was invited to enter a whole new world : the world of the Chopped Cheese.
I have a rough history with cheeseburger grinders - they are almost universally bad. This? This is what a cheeseburger grinder WISHES it could be. It is like a really good cheeseburger seved in a more edible format.
What Blackie's has managed to do is present a flavor profile that would result in a towering burger but delivered it in a format that is an absolute pleasure to eat.
They have done the impossible.
They have introduced me to a new favorite food.
Accompanying the Chopped cheese was a big bunch of sweet potato fries. They were really good, and there was just the right amount of them. No fry was left behind, and I was not full to bursting.
So why not 5 stars?
How dark the place is. It was so dim, I actually found it hard to enjoy looking at my food. It was relaxing for sure, but it made the actual visual portion of the eating experience suffer.
Otherwise? I'd say this was perfect.
Would I go back? 100%. I recommend Blackie's as highly as I can. Go, enjoy a Chopped Cheese, and be transported to a whole new world...
