Unfortunately disappointed with the pastrami and cheese steak subs I purchased on different times.I just started working down the street and this is a close place to eat so I was excited I got a pastrami sub the first time ....and when I saw them putting the hot pastrami in the microwave instead of a grill I got worried . Unfortunately it’s like a Subway sub because it was cooked exactly the same way in a microwave. The next time I went back I got a roast beef sub and it was phenomenal Super fresh everything cut fresh and delicious .Today I decided to try the cheese steak, Now subs from there are not cheap it’s a good size but when you get your cheesesteak and see it microwaved like subway it makes you feel sad. It’s unfortunate because I am a huge steak man and could tell it was an insult to the steak they put in the microwave it was great quality and would’ve tasted phenomenal but instead it was immediately soggy and gross. Plus canned mushrooms , If you’re looking for a great deli sandwich I would assume this is the place to go or cold cuts because the only cold cut sub I drive from here was great but if you’re looking for a hot sub I would go to Piezoni’s down the street even though it’s a chain at least cook your steak on the grill...
Read moreSmall and slightly strange location near or practically IN a gas station, don't let its humble appearance fool you. These are the same great sandwiches you have been getting at J's for years.
If you haven't gotten a sandwich from J's, you really ought to give them a try - just be sure to bring your appetite because the sandwiches are HUGE and packed. If you go with someone, and are able to agree on one of the dozens of options they have available, you could probably split one to make 2 reasonably portioned meals.
For me, I was not here for reasonability. I was here for a cheat meal and all the calories. I got the Ring of Fire and the Blondie for dessert.
The Ring of fire was packed full of meat and dressed with Buffalo sauce and Ranch (if I remember correctly). It was tasty, but for a similar experience that is kicked up a notch, I'd suggest going for The Graduate.
The blondie was delightful. Think chocolate chip cookie with an oreo filling and you are getting close to the flavor profile.
The staff was kind and courteous, and service was speedy in the face of a pretty big crowd in a small space. My one qualm would be that the music was far too loud. Other than that? A great place for a casual lunch that is a step...
Read moreWell, just picked up my order placed by phone. Walked into the restaurant, not busy at all, waited a few minutes to be greeted at the pickup line, was greeted. They got my order, but didn't give me what was included (ya know, basic stuff like a spoon for soup, napkins, or the marinara sauce for my pepperoni panini which was included) and the guy looked at me like he already knew that they didn't include it and asked if I wanted those things. Umm, yea... Lol... Still didn't give me napkins but whatever.
People working in these restaurants just ask yourself, "what would the customer think?" When getting an order ready because the customer is keenly aware. I almost feel like they tried to get away without giving me basic condiments for my meal (which was almost $20 for a panini and cup of soup). Oh, food was good, but CHECK YOUR Order. I still gave a tip for anyone interested. BTW, the "panini" was just a calzone squished. Notinterested.
Thank you for the response, it was the Smithfield location. Not trying to be a jerk, but this is simple stuff and it WAS NOT BUSY.
EDIT: The owner deleted their response to me for...
