The Chicken Barn — Restaurant in Smithfield

I go to this place and spend $60 easy for a family of 4 frequently. Well I order breakfast food but can’t to the barn without getting chicken so ordered to wings 1 for my daughter and I. The wing is only like 50 cent cheaper than a wing but we wanted wings. I get to the window and they say they’re out of wings. Ask if would like to substitute I only eat white meat. So changed for a breast. They put only 1 breast in the bag. Mind you the 1 breast is less than 2 wings and they didn’t change it on the receipt or offer to remove an item to make even just going to overcharge me. So I went back through the drive thru because the chicken was for 2 people not 1. I went thru and advised and they made the argument that the breast is less than wings yeah I know so y’all over charged me. They said the wings were up so they gave me the wings I originally requested but the biscuit was more of a cracker it was so hard. Like unbelievably hard. So at this point I didn’t feel secure eating the chicken and returned it. I also had something in my sweet teas so we didn’t drink those either. When I took it back it was a different shift just that fast but I believe the same leader because she asked no questions. Just a very silent dismissive nasty attitude. This experience completely change my view of this establishment that I had began to love so much. Every time I was in Smithfield I would have to stop by not anymore. Have to be very careful where you eat at these days. To accommodate the customer should have just gave 2 breast as you had already charged my card. This was poor customer service and a lack of wanting to satisfy...

I have only been through the drive-thru many times with no problem. Last night was the first time we had actually went in to eat. We got there around 8:10 with another couple. The lady taking our order took forever because she was too busy talking with her coworker as she was taking our order. The couple with us got there food because a worker brought it out when it was ready. My husband and I waited patiently. Finally I go up and ask someone if ours was ready yet. She said we will bring it to you. In the meantime they were putting chairs on the tables, sweeping all around us and throwing rugs over the trash cans. My husband goes up there and there is our food. Cold. Really...don't say you will bring it to us if you are not going to. Our friends had finished eating and we swallowed ours whole to hurry and get out. The lady even asked before we finished which door we were going out of. She locked the other door and basically walked behind us to lock the door we went out of. We had to throw our trash away in a trash can with nasty rugs hanging over them and the trash can was beside the counter with the condiments on it. Wow!!! Don't think we will go in to eat again and not sure I will go through drive-thru anymore. Not in a hurry to serve us but a lot of people sweeping, throwing rugs on trash cans and stacking chairs...with no smiles on their faces!! Good food, if it is hot, but service last night...

I've been dinning here since we moved here 14 years ago. Let me tell you, it's the best fried chicken I've ever had. Cooked all the way through, usually right out of the fryer. Not shy about seasonings in any of the food. The owners are normally there every day preparing the food. Don't be surprised if she comes out to ask you how's your food is. She makes the sheet cakes from scratch. The carrot cake is the only one I've tried so far. It brings back memories of my mother's. To say this place is a local favorite is a understatement. Her daughter has a snow cone place one block away that is a local icon as well. The building is shaped like a huge snow cone. It also has a huge rotating granite ball that is supported by water. Definitely a must see, especially if you have children. Everyone here has an attitude sweeter than southern sweet tea. I grew up in a small town. Grand Rapids, Ohio pop 3,000 on the weekends. That being said, it's so nice to have the direct eye to eye contact service with a smile.You won't regret...
