Diner does not accurately describe what this place is. It is a lunch counter. It does not have a diner menu, hours or feel as the cooking is done in plain sight like a typical Northeast luncheon. I had a turkey club sandwich and fries. The sandwich itself was overall tasty but, surprisingly, it lacked the right amount of tomato and lettuce. Plenty of turkey but not enough of the other stuff. I'm sure I could have requested more tomato and lettuce but I really shouldn't have to. The fries were a mixed bag. Not sure how you make half the plate undercooked and the rest cooked properly. The wife had a grilled cheese and fries. The sandwich was good but, let's be honest, a two year old should be able to cook a grilled cheese and her experience with the fries was the same as mine. If I'm in the area I will probably eat here again but it's not worth driving even a block out of the way to make it a destination. I'm still on a search to find a "real" diner south of the New Jersey border. Hope this...
Read moreI was in Smith-field NC attending a workshop and had the opportunity to visit this diner just yesterday, I was pleasantly surprised. So this is how it went....I had eaten a late breakfast and arrived to the diner not very hungry, so my co-worker ended up order lunch anyways. She ordering the meatloaf and grilled veggies and the whole time I caught myself staring at her plate, so I had to order me a plate to go for later that day. We flagged down waitress/owner, but before I could say anything she started ragging me "No, No, No, you said you weren't hungry" with a smile. So I was able to order a take plate of the same dish. I can honestly say that was the best meatloaf I have ever ordered out. The grilled veggies were on point as well. The chef/owner knew exactly how to season everything from the meatloaf itself to the sauce on top. I will defiantly make that short drive from Raleigh NC again soon to try more menu...
Read moreThis small diner is family owned and run and it shows in all the best ways. The service is personable and lighthearted. You can immediately gather that this place has its regulars within the community. I had their double cheeseburger and fries. I honestly wasn't expecting much considering the generous prices but the food definitely blew those expectations out of the water! The burger was well seasoned and cooked through without being too dry and the fries were cut and fried in-house. I should note that I opted for the upcharge of fries due to past experiences with places offering chips in the form of lays. Their chips also appear to be made in-house and while the fries were good I regret not trying the chips.
All in all, this is a wondeful place for those on a budget that hits way above its weight class in terms of...
