A True Texas BBQ Gem and my new personal favorite!

If you’re anywhere near Smithville, do yourself a favor and stop by Bubby’s BBQ. This place is the real deal—authentic, smoky, melt-in-your-mouth Texas barbecue that hits every note just right. The brisket is perfectly tender with that beautiful bark, the ribs fall off the bone, the bbq chicken is out of this world; who knew white meat could be so juicy and delicious? Don’t even get me started on the sides! Everything is homemade and full of flavor, from the creamy mac and cheese to the tangy slaw, the potato salad and the hot sauce… more please!

But what really makes Bubby’s special is Jay, the owner and pitmaster. You can tell he pours his heart and soul into everything he serves. Jay’s passion for BBQ and love for the community shine through in every interaction. He’s always there with a warm smile, ready to talk smoke temps, give a behind-the-scenes tour, or just make you feel like family. Jay was so nice, the food was so delicious that we forgot to take pictures to post.

This isn’t just a place to eat—it’s an experience. Jay has created something truly special at Bubby’s, and he is a great addition to Smithville. Do yourself a favor, go eat at Jay’s Bubby’s BBQ then grab some ice cream and sweet treats at hope...

Located in bumfuck TX is Bubbys lol. If you’re ever on the way to or coming from Austin on 71 you’re gonna pass Smithville. With the 1 min it took to order and the 5 mins it took to get the food, this may have been the best bang for bbq I’ve had.

Once you leave the Mecca of Houston to go to a bottom 5 food city in America in Austin the options get limited. If you’re in the mood for some bbq but don’t wanna wait in line for 3 hours to eat Spring Creek quality in Austin look no further.

Walk in and this place is right out of Tombstone. You walk up and order and they have some food options and only water or tea. That took me back some lol. Limited seating area but we made due.

Brisket 8.5/10 - lovely fatty moist cut of brisket here. My man Bubby told us it’s salt pepper love and couple Millers to make it. A must order.

Jalapeño Cheddar sausage 8/10 - you can actually taste and see the cheese here. Good salty flavor for the sausage too.

Gigis Tater Salad 7/10 - it was ok. A must complementary side for me with bbq. Costco brand is the move.

Mac and Cheese 7.5/10 - cheesy cooked well but just like aight.

Stop on by and give them a shot! Def worth going off the beaten path.

Hands down- the BBQ platter was a TOUCHDOWN for our Super Bowl gathering..

The Briskit was perfect, smoke ring, ( really moist) flavofilled, great bark ( he knows to throw me some end pieces in there - my favs) ( I love my BBQ can you tell), the pulled pork has such a great flavor, its not your typical rubber stamp pulled pork, this stuff has the flavor and " natural" moisture you want. Great sausage ( its hard to find a place that hits all (3) outta the park....

That potatoe salad - yum and drum roll... that creamed corn ( whooo weee). I look forward to seeing Bubbys thrive and grow. This young man and his family BBQ it up right!

I highly highly recommend for catering ( big or small, Ive ordered several lbs at a time or for larger gatherings) or even a great lunch or brunch meal - to go - if your at the FARMERS MARKET in Smithville Texas ( try the mac - n -cheese or his Breakfast BBQ breakfast biscuit -- yes I have had it all I think ! ).... follow Bubby's - he is doing catering & POP UP's .
