Janarty's Homemade Ice Cream — Restaurant in Smyrna

EDIT: I am changing my 2 star review to a 5 star review based on the interaction I just had with the owner alone! We talked on the phone & worked it all out. Jannell is making sure all is worked out. She not only refunded our order but is inviting us back to make sure we fall in love with their ice cream as much as they love their business & customers.

I was so looking forward to getting ice cream here. Unfortunately we didn’t have a great experience. Before we even paid, my son’s two scoops fell out of his cone. They didn’t seem to know what to do (the workers were teen girls) so they directed me to throw the cone away. The reason why the ice cream fell out was because the scoops were so small & hard that they were rolling around in the cone. My son had to tip the cone to get to the icecream & both scoops fell right out! They asked me if I wanted another cone. I should have said yes but I feel bad asking for anything special due to anxiety so I said “I feel bad and it’s ok…”fully expecting them to say ‘oh my gosh, it’s ok let me get you another one’! But we went to checkout & I paid for all four orders including the one in the trash can. I still can’t believe I was charged for an ice cream that we didn’t even get to eat! But worse of all…the three we did get had no taste & the cones tasted stale so they all ended up in the trash can by the time we got to the other side of the street. And that’s saying a lot that teen boys who eat anything would do that! We are not picky people at all! In all my 45 years I don’t think I’ve ever left a bad review…but I was soooooo looking forward to eating...

I have seen this place for a while and since my daughter mentioned going there with her father, I decided she and I would go today to see what it's all about. I was not disappointed at all matter of fact I loved everything about it as soon as I walked in.

The shop is small which is a plus because you're not overwhelmed by so many choices of ice cream and having to stand there for a while trying to decide what you want.

They keep the shop clean which I also love because some place don't so that's refreshing. They make their ice cream fresh every day and they don't use artificial flavors or anything ((except food dye for the mint which I agree with the owner, it makes it prettier.)) They make all the other treats by hand daily as well so everything there is as fresh as you can imagine.

If you want a specific flavor, just message them on Facebook and let them know twenty four hours in advance and they will make it for you. Also, they have other flavors besides the ones that are out and to find those flavors just go check out their Facebook. This will be my new go to for ice cream treats and a cool little place to hang out while enjoying the sweets.

Sometimes, as a Local Guide, you go to a place that blows you away. Janarty's is such a place. The whole place is just amazing. The store itself is clean, easy to find, and in Smyrna's hip-and-trendy depot district. They know me by name in there, and all of the staff are super-duper friendly and kind. The ice cream is by far the best in the state, with rotating flavors (often ones suggested by customers - hint, hint) that make the absolute perfect treat on almost any day. If you go for a cone, their homemade waffle cones are a delicacy. If ice cream isn't your thing, they also frequently have fudge, cookie sandwiches, and other little non-frozen treats. If it's a bit cold outside, don't let that keep you from stopping by. They have homemade hot chocolate for such weather, and their hot coco easily bests that of Starbucks in both taste and price. I love this place; I really do. It's such a nice atmosphere, the ice cream is spot-on, the staff is top-notch, the prices are about the same as a Baskin Robins, and above all, it's a great way to support a family owned local business.
