Edit: I'm leaving this review here for the Restaurant known as King Charlie's. It is temporarily closed forever pending an Angel investor/new owner with deep pockets and a burning desire that a drive-in only Restaurant will happen at that location again.
RIP King Charlie's: The burgers: beef, fish, and chicken are always better than the mega-chain quick service restaurant competition (and if you don't need extra toppings or flavors on your burgers, better than the "gourmet" burger restaurants around Snohomish County) in the greater Lake Stevens area. The beer batter onion rings are great, hopefully they never go back to the other kind. The inside of the building is all cooking/prep/stock area and the building is very small, it doesn't look like from the view through the windows there is much space for hot holding food. Everything is made to order, that's the main reason why the line will get long. The "Atmosphere": if you want to sit right there and eat you have 2 choices eat in your car, or eat at the outside benches ( that are well maintained ) and might be in the shade or sun depending on the time of day, the only cover is the trees that won't keep the rain from falling on burgers but will shade some benches much of the day. The service is good, but variable. The employees that are good at sales and service that you might remember, probably won't be there a year from when you last saw them, and the employees that seem in a bad mood probably won't be there 6 months after the last time they didn't want to talk to you when you were placing your order. There are "Summer" and "Winter" hours so have a backup plan if going there is a destination drive that by the time you get there you'll be really hungry and don't want to drive all the way back to your neighborhood...
Read moreGot to hang out on the grass while the tables dried with their new coat of purple paint. Enjoyed a burger and shake with the kids and husband after a nice hike in gold bar today. We haven't had king Charley's in a long time, so like everything else the prices went up, which is too bad, but we get it. And it was worth the 60 dollars because we got to feed the whole family and take a break while we recovered from our earlier adventures. Service was excellent those workers are doing a dang good job and they were efficient, and I could see they were hot in there so the mama bear In me wanted to ask if they were drinking plenty of water. One of the workers I could see when he touched the raw meat he took that glove off and finished wrapping up the food and put a fresh glove on. I appreciate a good work ethic, and not being lazy about it. I see the place is well taken care of and clean. Lines are usually long, but if you have the patience to wait, you will get a good meal out of the deal. Thanks for a great service you 3 (two males, 1 female) they also greeted us,smiled, and Said have a nice day. I really appreciate that. Makes me want to go back...
Read moreWe got a king's special and a deluxe burger and onion rings. The onion rings were crisp and delicious and the tartar sauce that was recommended was good with it. My girlfriend's burger was cooked good and all the toppings put on well and the sauce was delicious. I took about 3 to 4 bites of my deluxe burger (that didn't feel very deluxe) and ran into a long dirty blonde hair that was wedged in the left side of the burger bun and patty. My appetite was instantly lost. I had noticed some of the employees didn't have their hair up and I was disappointed to see that no one had masks on. Their service was quick and professional, and the food is probably good most of that time I was just thrown off by the hair a bit. All I ask is that whoever is on shift please try to keep the food safety rules of Washington, and please have an eye for detail. I know it was probably a total accident, having worked food myself, it does happen. Just try not to let it happen as much as possible please. Next time we're in the area we'll give it another...
