That may say one star, but I really meant zero stars.
My boyfriend took me down to Socorro so we could deal with a death in the family, already a not good reason to have to go somewhere. Courthouse was closed til 1 so we decided to grab food at this place he used to come to with his grandpa all the time because the food was great.
Service was the worst and I live in ABQ, thats saying something. Took 20 minutes for them to get our drink order. They helped every table nicely but me and him? They gave us dirty looks the whole time. Took another 20 minutes to take our order. They forgot stuff off my boyfriend's order. Didn't want to explain what came on a dish. And then took another 40 minutes to just get a to-go box. And while getting the to-go box they didn't even come to the table for us to ask. My boyfriend raised his hand to get the waitresses attention and she stood at another table and say "what?" In the rudest manner. My boyfriend had to yell across the restaurant to get my box and order his to-go order. She didn't actually hear the to-go order obviously because she was so far away so we had to re-order it when she finally got the courtesy to come to the table with my box.
Boyfriend said covid ruined this place because it doesn't taste the same and people are rude... from a new timer I could have got better food and service at McDonalds. Never again. From a new customer and a long time customer. Go down the street...
Read moreLoved this place since college for cheap, big breakfast burritos-usually the food is great and the portions generous for the price. If they get slammed, sometimes we'll have the errant "bean and cheese burrito" that someone forgets the cheese on, or, if you're a Chile Addict like my entire family, and your "Red Chile and" whatever burrito has a scant 1/2tsp of red in the last bite, you're disappointed and a bit put out... But, we always go back... if you can stay your impatience, and take the 30 seconds to check your order before digging in, staff is almost always kind and at least willing to correct the slight... Their red chile is smooth and with a nice heat; their green is usually mild and like a sauce(but not cream based)- but, obviously home made and can occasionally have a kick if the season is right. Their homemade salsa and chicken tacos are the best if you like your polľo grilled and your salsa minced fine with just the right balance of cilantro, onion, jallèpeno and tomato... If you have the time, go in and eat at Sophias (and enjoy an excellent bowl of Muenďo and a slice of something baked and homemade that day) or if youre in a hurry, their take out window, Burrito Tyme, has been serving locals since I was a kid... For five generations of "Socorroan's," we pretty much all love Burrito...
Read moreWe stopped in here for lunch last week while staying in Socorro. First of all, the hours posted here that they are open are technically correct but right now they stop indoor dining after lunch at 1 pm. After that they only serve at the drive thru window for take home orders.
They are centrally located and easy to find, just off of California Street. They have a large parking lot and when we walked in were greeted by the folks at the cash register and they said to sit anywhere we liked. The interior is brightly lit and the walls are covered with colorful murals of scenes from around Socorro, such as the Bosque del Apache WLR, the local Catholic church and even the Large Array radio telescopes just over the mountain.
We had spent the morning down at the Bosque taking pictures of the birds so we had not had breakfast so this was sort of brunch for us. We placed our orders and in a few minutes plates covered with lovely New Mexico style Mexican food came out. We had burritos and enchiladas, they came with very good Spanish rice and refried beans. They also brought out fresh sopapillas that were light an airy.
Soon, our tummies were full so we got up and paid at the register. I recommend you try Sofia's Kitchen when in Socorro, you will be pleased with...
