Ellie's Cafe — Restaurant in Somerdale

Ellie’s Café is a popular spot that has been suggested to me as a “must try”by a few peeps. I finally had the chance to try it with my friend Dina.

It’s in an older strip mall, but don’t let that fool you. It’s very nice and inviting inside. What first caught my eye was a collection box for non-perishable food at the front counter signaling that the owners care about their community. Love it!

There was enough seating for a few patrons. We took the back table near the bagel bins. The menu had us stumped for a bit as there were quite a few choices. I tried not to use too many weight watcher points by skipping the cheese, but how do I fairly review the sandwich if it doesn’t have cheese? I can’t. So I ordered an everything bagel with turkey sausage, egg, and American cheese. Dina got the pork roll and cheese on a plain bagel. Both were delicious. And the coffee was a medium roast by LaColombe - perfect.

The staff was very helpful and pleasant. Regulars came in and out.

Every time I call, I am placed on hold for an unreasonable amount of time. Today was no exception, in addition, there was an issue with my order. When I called to address the mistake, they acknowledged it and offered to remake the sandwiches free of charge. While it was inconvenient to drive back to the store, I appreciated the offer and was happy with the resolution. However, when I arrived to pick up my corrected order, I was given a box of toppings to swap out and assemble on my own, rather than receiving the new sandwiches as I had been promised. I was confused and frustrated, especially since the one employee seemed frustrated with my request to have the order done correctly. I even offered to pay for the new sandwiches to avoid further complications. Although they did eventually make my new order, and I did end up paying for the new sandwiches as well, this experience left me feeling very...

They forgot my 2 year old sons muffin. when I called them about it they said they can refund it or I can come pick it up. I asked if they could deliver it, to which they responded no because they close in 10 minutes so they could only refund and I couldn't pick it up. So I took the muffin refund. Then left to pick up my son a muffin from dunkn and came home to eat my cold food from Ellies.

Update since the owner responded. The muffin was not given to me. A stapled shut bag was placed on the counter in front of me when I came to pick up my order. I was not informed anything else was mine nor did I see anything else on the counter. If I did see something I would assume it wasn't mine since I was given a stapled shut bag when I asked for my order.
