Hey just like people here that are family, friends, and loyal customers of "Johnny Gabagool" are going to back him, I am going to tell the truth and back my big brother Bruce on this one.
First off my parents, brother, and I relocated to Stratford, NJ in 1985 after leaving Yonkers, NY. You would think after 40 YEARS of being a customer at Somerdale this guy would at least know my brother on a 1st name basis and not until he left a negative review. That tells me he doesn't care much about his customers. The staff still always treats my brother like a complete stranger.
Second, my brother is a graduate of Sterling High School which is RIGHT THERE and a Gulf War veteran. Unfortunately, he now has many illnesses to contend with because of his service. His dog IS IN FACT A SERVICE ANIMAL and my brother offered to show you his documentation and YOU REFUSED! I know because he called me the day it happened and told me. Now I was not there that particular day but his dog just turned 11 and my brother takes that dog EVERYWHERE AND HAS NO ISSUES! People rarely ask him for the service animal card, but when they do my brother ALWAYS complies and then they leave him alone about it.
Third, this guy straight up lied about his dog's behavior. His dog is ALWAYS complimented on how quiet he is like you would never even know he was there. All that B.S. about him barking and jumping on people was laughable. His dog is small and bothers NO ONE!
I no longer live in the area, but when I used to come up to visit as I still have family in the area, Somerdale was always a stop. Not anymore. Too many other great sandwich places to go to in South Jersey or even Philly. Not to mention this guy runs like a little school girl to post a video on social media rather than hash it out in person with a loyal customer.
Let's see if "Johnny Gabagool" keeps his word of being a "BIG BOY" and leaves this review up on here...
Read moreMy fiancé and I decided to stop here on Sunday to get an Italian hoagie to split for lunch, mind you this is my first time. I go in to order the Italian hoagie and as I’m giving the lady my order and going through all the toppings I noticed that they up charge for almost everything, pickles on the side($1 and some change), peppers(didn’t catch the price but probably around the same as the pickles), and I wanted to get cooper sharp instead of provolone which there was an up charge for. I asked for onions on the side which there was no up charge but the bag they gave me with onions was almost a half of onion but no charge for that? Weird. Anyway, we get home and split the sandwich and I’m looking at the inside and everything looked good until I notice the meat, it was the smallest amount of meat on 12 inch hoagie I had ever seen. I paid $11.99 for basically a cheese and veggie sandwich, I’m disappointed and will not be back. At the prices they charge at this place they could put a little more meat on the sandwich. When I called an asked about it, the lady that picked up the phone told me the meat was pre-weighed out at .3 of a pound, spread that out over a 12 in roll and it’s a very thin layer of meat. To make it worst, there’s no capicola, and no prosciutto. there was only salami and ham in this Italian hoagie and I get prosciutto is an expensive meat but they need to at the very least put the capicola on their hoagies. That’s what makes the Italian hoagie. I could have went to Wawa and got a sandwich for half the price and just as good. The only thing this place has Wawa beat on is the quality of the cheese, that’s it. It’s a-shame because people said this place was good but supposedly now have a new owner or under new management. Staff was nice but that doesn’t change the quality of the sandwich. This was my first time here and I will...
Read moreTheir hoagies are top notch. However the service is ridiculous. I see there is barely any people of color that comment on about this place so I would definitely love to hear others' experiences. I went here this past Saturday which was 12/21/24. I had bought two Italian hoagies and I have to say it was not that pleasant of an experience. It wasnt because of what was said to me or anything but it was more of how workers were acting towards me. One older lady behind the counter at the cash register acted weird like she was scared like I was going to rob her. There was no reason to be stuttering, talking so low, or looking away from me. Also not too many of the women working behind the deli counter seemed like they wanted to take my order.
That's why I believe they took so long to ask me if I needed anything. I truly believe it was a racial issue here but I can't say I'm surprised as Somerdale has so much history of racism over the years although there have been improvements. This place hasn't changed much. I barely come here for lots of reasons and this is another one added to my list. This place still hasn't learned their lesson from being robbed before.
They still only accept cash which is weird. I'm guessing the person who robbed them before was black. No wonder why they were acting the way they were towards me. I will just come to Verchio's in brooklawn instead. Way better service and at least I know I won't be...
