Shanghai House Restaurant — Restaurant in Somers Point

Within 4 hours of eating the kung po chicken my boyfriend started to get sick. For HOURS. He’s still sick to the point where I came to write this review at 4:10 in the morning and I never write reviews but this experience was worth leaving a review about to WARN OTHERS TO STAY AWAY. I came here to see other reviews (seeing if others have been sick like this) and I see it’s a trend here. So far only 1 out of 6 of us are sick but I definitely will not ever be going back. We noticed nothing wrong with the food while eating, but it’s now apparent the chicken they used for his dish was either undercooked or just bad. Don’t take the risk. How they have any good reviews is beyond me. Look closer and you’ll see pictures of hair in the food, complaints of bugs in the restaurant, AND multiple people getting sick due to under cooked chicken. Not to mention the numerous bad reviews about the lack of customer service.

Not sure if any of the staff will ever read this and I doubt they will… but if you do take some pride in your establishment! Handle food properly. Cook the food properly. If it’s bad don’t try to save a few dollars and cook it anyway. Throw it AWAY. Do right by your customers. Extremely disappointed by this experience. When getting Chinese food in Somers Point I usually go to Ocean Garden. I like the nice airy atmosphere and green colors in the restaurant .. and the cheerful and pleasant people who own it.. It always has a nice feel. This time I went to the Shanghai House as a change of pace. I can tell you I am never going back there again. Entering the icy cold environs of this restaurant and dealing with the owners made think of all the dumpy greasy spoon Chinese restaurants I visited in North Philly. What a drab cold and lifeless place it is. The woman behind the counter was not friendly and the toilet in the bathroom didn't flush and there were no paper towels. This place has serious issues. The food was overpriced and salty.. They demand a $20 minimum purchase for using a bank card and the food isnt good either.. It was overpriced and salty.. The Shrimp Lo Mein had sparce shrimp and vegetables in it. When they gave me my bag of food they didn't even provide napkins! Cheese n crackers! They don't care! Another terrible place in Atlantic County. The food in Somers Point and Northfield is lacking as it is, but the Chinese food is especially bad. We ordered from this place twice, the first time was a better experience than other Chinese places around here so we decided to order from them again. This time we ordered, we're told 50 minutes for delivery. An hour and twenty minutes passed so my husband called to see what was going on and they said their driver called out, okay you can't control that, but you took our phone number -gives us a heads up. Before we get off they said the food was going out at that moment, my husband asked if it was warm and freshly cooked or has it been sitting around? They responded with it being fresh and warm , and that it will be here soon. Ten or fifteen minutes later it arrives , cold and missing rice from one of the meals.
