It saddens me to leave a one star review on an establishment who’s food I’ve enjoyed very much over the past couple years. However, this review is coming from several, terrible, consecutive customer service experiences. After ordering on Uber Eats, we called in to ask for a side of eel sauce and spicy mayo since we couldn’t find anywhere to add them to our order or ask for them in the notes. The first time this happened, the woman who picked up the phone was extremely rude and insisted that next time we order them through UberEats because they’re on the menu. They’re not. We checked twice before calling. The lady was extremely irritated because she wouldn’t be able to charge us 50 cents per sauce. A whopping $1 total. Mind you, she asked us which order was ours and she could have realized maybe a $1 upcharge wasn’t necessary for an order over $100. Whatever, she rushed us off the phone and we got our sauce. Fast forward to our next order. We look EVERYWHERE on the menu again for any option to add sauce or any sort of side that would bring it, again, to no avail. We prayed we didn’t have to deal with the same woman again. Once she picked up we knew. This time she said that if we wanted to get extra sauce it would be $1 and was extremely rude saying that we’d have to COME IN to pay $1 for the sauce since their CC minimum was under $1. We pleaded for them to add the sauce option to the menu and she hung up on us. No sauce this time. It’s just sad, and poor business. Every time we order we spend over $100 for 2-3 ppl and they want to nickel and dime over the tiniest request and ultimately demonstrate their lack of care for their loyal customers supporting their business during a tough time. We’ll be ordering from elsewhere...
Read moreI had an awful customer service experience. I ordered a sushi lunch for delivery for my girlfriend’s birthday. As you can imagine, we were both really excited as the time it was supposed to be delivered approached. And then it passed without the delivery being made. After 15 minutes, I called to check on the status of the order and was told it was on the way and to just wait for it. After 30 minutes, I called again and could hear visible frustration directed toward me from the woman on the phone, as I was told the same exact thing: it’s out for delivery so just wait. She also said she’d contact the delivery driver and call me back. She never called me back. After 45 minutes, I called a third time and spoke with the same woman who at this point was irate that I had called again, and eventually just hung up on me. The sushi was okay, but I would not recommend based on...
Read moreGenki Ya is the best restaurant in Davis Square! Very healthy and affordable food. I lived near Little Tokyo in Los Angeles for decades and was elected to the local neighborhood council in the district. I haven't had Japanese food that's this good since I left Los Angeles. I especially love the broccoli (the sauce is very unique) and the salmon (perfectly cooked - crispy outside and tender inside). Quiet and relaxing environment with Hawaiian style music playing all the time. Extremely kind, compassionate and friendly owner and staff. The broccoli salad is amazing and after I eat the sashi-mi my brain almost always works better. Elaine (I-Ling), Paul, and everyone else at Genki Ya always treat me like a friend and a neighbor-- not just like a customer passing through. Genki Ya is my favorite restaurant in the neighborhood---and I plan to keep coming here whenever I am...
