Dragon Pizza — Restaurant in Somerville

Im a Stoolie ( Does it matter?) I also grew up in the Ville, so had to come back to check it out with a friend to give it a honest try. Portnoys beef aside, pizza isnt just a " needs to be New Haven" style to be top level.....so I came in and place is super nice with character. Somerville is the Austin of Massachusetts. Youll see people from all walks of life and Dragons Pizza reflects that in its signage, interior design, attached and dining area with gaming section...but you can feel it in the attitude ...its Somerville...it has an edge to it...a creative passionate edge ... a Central Square/Harvard Square edge.....call it The Charlie edge....again beef with Portnoy aside...every business shows its passion in a myriad of ways and give credit to Charlie for holding it down in Davis Square with sky high rents and myriad of options...the extra literature on the counter highlighting the Portnoy beef showed Charlie rolled with the punches and succeeded in his own right......

With that said, I liked the pizza. Best way to describe it is juicy. Cheese is juicy and portions of cheese are generous. Dough is crispy, crunchy and there was no feeling of overwhelmed by parm....music selection in the place isn't my style but its Somerville Davis Square....ya gotta know you're gonna get individual personality here even with the music....its Somerville lol....

Would I go back? Sure! The gaming area interests me and the pizza was more than good enough. Sitting by the window and watching people walk outside in historic Davis Square...super nice!......add in the extra history with Portnoy and its an immediate destination especially if you are a pizza connoisseur and want to score the pizza with your own palette.

Note: Bringing the Portnoy beef front in center... Do I think Charlie going out during a review to call out Portnoy was a good move? Do I think Portnoy going into every pizza place and video taping out front having the business in the palm of his hands? ...

This cozy little pizza shop seems to be a neighborhood classic in Somerville as people are in and out with pizza in one hand and a smile on their faces.

The service was fantastic getting greeted right away. The menu looks to be changing as it's on paper and the selection is diverse. There was no price that I have seen on the menu but I could be wrong.

They serve alcohol which is nice for being in the 21+ crowd as they also have a space next to the pizza shop for hanging out and playing board games and pinball. The drink selection is great for a pizza shop.

The pizza had a great size and smell to it. As we pull the pizza slice away from the other slices the tip just falls with all the toppings and cheese falling onto the pan. After picking up the fallen pieces the pizza had great flavor. The sauce was a bit more sweet and reminded me of beach pizza. The cheese was pulled off the pizza with too much ease. The grease was pouring down the crust and onto the pan. The dough was a bit chewy for a thin crust.

Overall, good experience with the service. The atmosphere was unique and fun. The pizza was okay after picking up the pieces. I would say going there every once and a while is great but nothing I would go out...

Dragon Pizza 🐉 🍕 is a must visit in the Davis Square area. Their front area is just like a NY pizza bar. Great quick stool & bench seating or table seating. They also have a nice patio area out back off the main road.

The slices are made well. Thin crust, a nice crunch with some pizza oven char on them. The cheese is stretchy but with that still nice solid texture you get in a good NY slice. Their sauce was also excellent. Not too salty, sweet, or heart-burny! Ha!

They also built an excellent little bar counter that was set to open in 2020, but then Covid….so it’s open now, new, and ready for service!

We had Negronis at a bargain $10/cocktail, expertly made with the orange peel rim wipe and twist into the drink. The Margherita slice was awesome. Basil makes me happy. 😊 🌿. The pepperoni slice was good too. They slice their pepperoni in a long direction, rather than in circles, which we found unique. Of the two, Margherita was 👑 king.

Alexa helped us and was a sweet person. Really kind, helpful, and made us want to come back. We will most definitely be back! I have to try the special Maple Bacon slice by Alexa’s suggestion. I cannot wait. Thank you all so much. This was a really enjoyable place. Make...
