Cliffs notes: poor service, bad food, watched 2 cooks put stirring spoon back into pot after trying (lips to spoon)!!!

My family and I first ate here 6 months or so ago. My husband LOVES tacos and we are both a fan of spicy. The first time we went he loved the tacos and they served this deliciously spicy red sauce which we both used. We enjoyed it so much we returned a week later. All was the same and good. The third time we went, a few weeks later, the sauce was different. The fourth time we visited, a month or so later, the sauce was not the same as it was the first 2 times, but nor was it like the last. The final time we visited the restaurant it was our last. On the last visit the sauce was yet again different. My dish (sopes) smelled funny.. maybe the lettuce or the beans were bad? While eating, I could see directly into the kitchen and witnessed a cook try something in a large pot with a cooking spoon. The cook put the spoon back into the pot and then a second cook ate from the spoon. The same spoon went back into the pot, there was laughter, then the remainder of what looked like a carton of stock was poured into the pot. To top it all off, as others have said, the salsa tastes horrible (like very cheap jarred salsa) and we experienced terrible service. Our waitress didn’t crack a smile, didn’t ask how things were, if we needed anything, and overall gave the impression like she would rather be elsewhere.

Don’t waste your money in this place. Terrible...

I came here recently for the first time after a friends recommendation. After reviewing the menu I decoded to try their authentic style tacos. One of the things I like particularly about this restaurant is that it serves different styles of tacos opposed to just one. There’s traditional, Tex mex, and birria tacos. Most places that offer tacos only offer one style and I personally like authentic style or birria.

I got 1 of each. chicken, steak, and pork. Tacos were served with one tortilla each which (in my opinion) takes away from the taco. The steak tacos were decent. Texture of the steak was very good, and it was cooked well but lacked flavor.

The chicken taco was my least favorite. The “pulled” consistency of the chicken was good just it wasn’t my favorite taste. Had a slight char taste to it, but the kind of char that was like “you might need to give your grill top a good cleaning” type char.

The pork taco was the best out of all three. Perfect portion of pork a great flavor, wasn’t dry, and paired perfectly with the pineapple.

The banana milkshake was made fresh. Perfect consistency. Not too watery or too thick.

Verde sauce was very good but not close to the best I’ve had.

The waitress got my friends order wrong the first time, but ended up making him a new one after, and than gave us $5 off the check offer which was generous. He said his sandwich was good.

I hope to explore more of this restaurants menu in the future but for now I’ll be back...

I used to come here all the time. It has always been a little on the expensive side, but they HAD great service and the food was very good. This quickly went downhill. The only waitress who was helpful and charismatic is no longer there. Now you're lucky to be acknowledged within 10 minutes of entering. The items and ingredients on the menu has never been constant with the actual meals, but its gotten way worse. Every time I go in there, the price increases, but this last visit I noticed that things have jumped up substantially. Nothing seems to be less than $15 on this menu and that includes appetizers. I mean, $16 for a bowl of soup? Yikes! The food, although good, isn't complicated compared to other South American restaurants in the area. I get that times are tough, but there are ways to keep costs down and not put the burden on the customer. Despite the food being good, the price has significantly over-shadowed the value of the meal and certainly the customer service. I ordered a spicy meal, the woman who served us NEVER came back. We were the only two people in the entire restaurant. I needed a drink so bad that I literally got up, left, went next door to the seafood place to get a drink, and came back. No one even noticed or came back to us for another 20 minutes. I had to go to the back counter and call for someone to give...

Host was very nice but overall had a terrible experience getting take out. My wife got the steak enchiladas but they gave her chicken instead. They looked appetizing but were surprisingly bland and they forgot her guacamole. I got the mixed quesadilla and a pork tomale and the prices for both on the menu were wrong (apparently based on what I instead was charged). I have sympathy for businesses having to keep their PAPER menu up to date in an inflationary environment but there’s no excuse for not having the online menu up to date. Quesadilla was decent but they didn’t include the salsa or sour cream. The pork tomale had a lot of bones in it; I’m guessing this is more of an authentic style but that’s not expected by an average person. Menu should forewarn people. Regardless I did not enjoy the tomale to put it politely. 3% up charge for credit card was the nail in the coffin. I don’t enjoy leaving a one star review but there were so many things wrong with our experience…

Very pleased with the restaurant, the food, and the staff. Was doing some shopping around town when the sign outside for champurrado. Upon entering we were immediately greeted and taken care of. My girlfriend and I ordered chicken tacos, jugo de Jamaica, and a champurrado. The food did not disappoint. The chicken in the tacos was incredibly flavorful. The champurrado was warm and perfect for the cold weather, and the hibiscus drink was the perfect combination of sweet and tart. Cannot wait to return and try more of the menu out.
