My family and I order from Sushi Yokohama almost weekly for at least 4 years now. I worked at a Japanese restaurant growing up, have had sushi at plenty of NYC places (Nakazawa, Morimoto - before covid closure, etc), and have tried to branch out locally (Ai Sushi, Sushi Palace, Kumo, Ryujin, Mizu)...so we're not newbies to the sushi world. We continue to return to Yokohama, because it is the right balance of quality and price, no frills selection, and consistent freshness. We typically order all sashimi for 2 adults and a few of the cooked rolls and a teriyaki dinner for the kids. In all the years, they may have missed one item and a couple of sauces, and have always been apologetic if I mention it. So, either they're really good, or we just got really lucky over 4 years eating their food about once a week. I rarely leave reviews, but was compelled when I saw others that wrote about food poisoning. Since those are serious accusations, I was disappointed in the lack of informative sharing from those reviews: What dishes? What day did you go? What happened when you informed the restaurant? Did everyone end up ok? Reviews are here to help the greater community do better. I just wish all reviews were written with that in mind, especially if the complaints are...
Read moreI don’t blame the owner for the staff’s actions, but our experience was disappointing. Our party arrived around 2:30 PM and placed a significant order. However, before we could even finish a portion of our meal, we were handed the bill 2:50 and asked to leave at 3:00 PM. When we explained to the manager that we were almost done and simply needed a little more time, she didn’t even listen. Instead, she was too busy looking at her watch, repeatedly saying, “You have to leave. You have to leave. You have to leave,” without any consideration for our situation. This is no way to treat paying customers. While the food and atmosphere were fine, the poor management and lack of hospitality ruined the experience. Unfortunately, we won’t be returning.
To the Owner:
If you’re reading this, please understand that when customers dine at your restaurant, they should be allowed to finish their meals without being rushed out the door. Regardless of your closing time at 3:00 PM, once guests are seated and served, they should be treated with respect and given the time to complete their meal. The way we were asked to leave before even finishing was unacceptable. Frankly, you should be grateful we chose not to make a scene. We will be feeling...
Read moreHad reservations for 2 on Wednesday and was seated right away. Restaurant was about half full. Place seems clean and the staff was attentive, not really welcoming but not rude either.
Started off with the edamame which was seasoned well and tasty. Ordered 2 fatty tuna sashimi along with 4 white tuna sashimi. For some reason the white tuna came out as sushi but decided to eat it anyway. The fish was fresh and delicious. We also got fried dumplings which were crispy and flavorful.
Ordered the beef yakisoba and it was pretty terrible. Noodles were mushy because it was overcooked. The beef was dry and stale, and the veggies were also mushy. Overall not much flavor going on. My friend thought I had gotten chicken because the beef was so pale. Left 2/3rds of the meal, just wasn't good.
My friend got one of the special rolls and it was really good. Drowning a bit in sauce but it was tasty. This place is definitely better with their sushi the entrées.
When we finished our meal the waiter just slapped down the check without asking about dessert. We ended up ordering the fried ice cream. It also wasn't good. Very raw dough taste. Left that behind and just ate...
