I recently had the opportunity to visit Boulevard Seafood Company with another couple. It was the worst dining experience I have had in years. Upon arrival, we were met with an empty hostess stand. After waiting there for nearly 10 minutes, the hostess finally appeared and walked us to our table. We were brought a complimentary plate of corn croquettes, which was nice as the four of us were quite hungry. We perused the menu and placed our orders. Our guests decided to share an order of steamed clams, and my girlfriend and I ordered the Korean BBQ chicken wings. The clams arrived at the table in an adequate amount of time, but the wings took much longer. After our guests had finished their appetizer and an additional 10 minutes had passed, I grabbed the server, Christina, and inquired why it was taking so long. She informed us it was because the restaurant was busy. It should be noted that about half the tables were empty, and the occupied tables were almost exclusively occupied by only two diners each. Another 5 minutes or so passed before the wings showed up, and they looked like they were covered in Buffalo sauce, not Korean BBQ sauce. When I asked the food runner if it was, in fact, Korean BBQ, he replied, “I don’t know, it’s what you ordered.” We couldn’t even finish the wings. They were slimy and disgusting, and we never did quite figure out what the sauce was. It was neither Korean BBQ nor Buffalo. For our main course, the four of us ordered fish tacos, two orders of mussels, and a Yellowfin tuna dish. It seems that the tacos were fine as there was no critique given, and he ate them without any discussion. My Yellowfin was ordered rare but came medium, which would have been just fine except that it was so insanely salty it was difficult to choke down. According to the menu, the mussels come with French fries. They did not accompany the meals when they were delivered to the table. We asked Christina, the server, twice and were told that they were on their way out. The third time we asked, she said that they were out of French fries. When we asked if there was a substitute, she said that she could bring us corn chips. I am sorry, but Fritos do not seem like an adequate replacement for French fries in my opinion. When I asked both parties how the mussels were, I was told, “very okay.” Our displeasure seemed to be met with no apologies and a very “do not disturb” attitude. When the bill came, not one cent was taken off, even though we were not given half of two orders of mussles. Boulevard Seafood Company essentially stole our money. I cannot give them one ounce of grace as they did not even make a veiled attempt at providing a decent meal or hospitable service. Shame on Boulevard...
Read moreWe visited this restaurant in NJ during a business lunch, and it was such a nice surprise! First of all, I love seafood, so I was excited to go to a seafood restaurant. Second, they had high reviews, so that got me even more excited, that maybe this would be a great place…
They have an open kitchen, pretty large, with counter seats facing the kitchen. There are high table seating behind the counter. After that, there is more dining area with regular height tables. They have exposed brick on one wall, creating a warm and cozy atmosphere. It also had heavy use of wood and exposed duct work, adding a bit industrial and modern look. And, it didn’t end here. They have a nice, large, outdoor wood deck patio! We didn’t sit outside, but it is nice to have the option. They had good space, enough to entertain a good amount of crowd.
They offer Lunch Prix Fixe Lunch, either 1 course, or 2 courses that comes with dessert. We had Octopus & Shrimp Salad, Steamed Mussels & French Fries, Sautéed Black Sea Bass, and Flounder Française. They were all fantastic, and generous portion. We were all very happy with our food. We got one dessert, coconut Pudding (I think) which was waaaaay too sweet.
There was only one server during this lunch hours, which was surprising... He was doing the best that he could, but the speed still suffered. It was a bit slow, but we understood the situation so we were not too bothered by it. The server was very nice and friendly.
We had nice, relaxing lunch. I would love to go back again for more great seafood! Read my full review of this restaurant and food on my food blog,...
Read moreMy review is for my last visit during weekday lunch (Tuesday-Saturday). They offer plates for $14 or pick two with a dessert for $22. Choose the pick two with dessert, you won't regret it!!!
My husband and I chose the mussels and fries Provencal (wow!!!), the octopus and shrimp salad (yums!), The salmon club, and the fish tacos. The salmon club was probably the best sandwich I've ever had. Salmon was moist and soft and fresh. The club had two really big thick cut bacon strips with arugala and served with some type of mayo. Amazing. The fish tacos had huge pieces of lightly fried cod and it blew my mind. Came with guacamole and a lighter version of a tartar sauce. Every bite was fresh and flavorful with just the right amount of acid/bite from the fresh toppings.
Everything was a complete satsifaction to every extent. Flavor was amazing and everything was prepared to order in their open concept kitchen.
Dessert was a choice between carrot cake and creme brulee. The crene brulee was bruleed to order and was perfect in terms of flavor and texture.
The owner Mike was so nice to check on us and ask us how our experience was. We found out he owns the bakery next door as well as it was connect led to the restaurant.
Decor was so nice and the music playing was relaxing hits from the past. Honestly such a great environment. We got a ton of seafood for under $50 for the two of us. You just can't beat that. I'll...
