Finally made my way to Vinal Bakery after hearing great things about its homemade English muffins. The bakery is located on a quiet corner next to a Target. The inside has a few tables with an open kitchen, but there is also a side window for "walk-by" ordering.
Miss Maple on French Toast English Muffin ($6.75): The maple butter had a light sweetness that was yummy. I'm not sure if the French toast English muffin is named so because of the flavor or texture, but it didn't remind me of French toast; it just tasted like a regular, chewy English muffin. However, it did taste homemade. Overall, this was pretty good, but I probably wouldn't get it again. I also think it could have been cheaper given it only contained an egg and cheddar cheese. Oatmeal Cream Pie ($4): I got this because it is supposedly their most popular baked good. I really liked the oatmeal cookie: crispy edges with a delectably chewy center. However, the cream was VERY sweet, like cupcake frosting. The cookie was also sweet, so, together, I found it too overwhelming.
Service was friendly, and they were able to prep my order earlier than the scheduled time since I arrived early. The community crossword by the register is also a...
Read moreThis charming little café offers delicious pastries and breakfast sandwiches served on English muffins. The space is small, with just a few tables, but they also have a separate online order window, which is great for pick-up. My friend and I tried two lattes—one fall special and a vanilla oat milk latte—and both were solid, quality coffees. Nothing extraordinary, but definitely satisfying.
It was a bit busy, so we waited around 15-20 minutes, but it was worth it. We both went for breakfast sandwiches, which come in different varieties with optional toppings for an additional charge. Honestly, this was one of the best breakfast sandwiches I’ve had in a long time. Even though it was on a smaller English muffin, it was hearty without being overly filling, and everything was cooked perfectly—especially the melted American cheese. The English muffins were soft and had a great flavor, much better than store-bought.
I got the egg and cheese sandwich with bacon and avocado, and I’ll...
Read moreI don't remember exactly why Vinal Bakery ended up on my list of places to visit, but making the treacherous journey all the way up to Somerville from Boston was worth it (or at least that's what I told myself after waiting in line).
We came on a Saturday morning, and despite it being packed, the crowds came and went, so by the time our food was ready, we were able to snag a table. The space itself is pretty cramped though, so I wouldn't recommend coming in a group if you want to sit down. They do have benches outside though, for when the weather isn't so bad.
I got the Flora with ham, and a spicy chai latte. I don't know exactly why they call it spicy though, because it tasted like a regular old chai latte. The sandwich was good though, despite me not really being a breakfast sandwich person.
I wouldn't go out of my way to come back, but if I'm ever in the area again I...
