Oriental Express — Restaurant in South Bend

Chicken egg rolls. I don’t go here, I buy from China House on Mishawaka st. Since we live 3 minutes away from Oriental, my husband goes there. Thing is, the first he brought egg rolls for me saying it’s my favourite which is it’s not cos I never had them before, I didn’t like it. It was not cooked through. So I stopped at one egg roll. Second time that was last week, I ate 3 or 4 cos it was so good. Crunchy, cooked all the way and smelled good. Today, we got some again, I didn’t like it. Just like the first time, undercooked and wasn’t crunchy, so I stopped at 1 again. The other thing was, we ordered egg drop soup last week and got dumbling soup. I don’t eat pork so those 3 soup went to waste. 3 stars cos sometimes the food is good sometimes it’s not. Other thing is, my mil said the egg roll didn’t have a taste today which was right. To be honest, we weren't expecting much from a take-out place. We were extremely misguided. This was some of the freshest and absolutely best Chinese food we've had. It's definitely in our top 2-3. Since this was our first time ordering from them, we got two of the chef's specials. One was a seafood mix and the other was a general mix. Both were extraordinary, both in texture and taste. Broccoli tends to be either over- or under-cooked, but it was spot-on perfect in both dishes. The bamboo shoots were not at all stringy or tough.
