So, the wife heard that this place was awesome for Indian food. So we came here for Father's Day for some grub. Of course it was crowded, and there weren't many seats left. So we were sat right next to the buffet carts, where everyone waiting in the buffet line could see us eat. Not very comfortable.
I got in the buffet line and grabbed a little bit of everything I could get my hands on to try it all.
The Chicken Tikka Masala was okay, not bad, but not great either. The Goat Masala was above average, but it was filled with bones, large bones, that you have no idea are in there until it's already in your mouth. The rice was just "meh", nothing too special. The mint chutney was a little more savoury than I'm used to. The Saag had no meat in it, and tasted like it had way too much spinach in it than curry sauce.
The tandoori chicken was actually very good, it's probably what I liked the most about the food here. Then, out of nowhere, I see Mexican food... yeah, chips, dip, beans, sour cream... Whaaaaaat? Why? I didn't bother, it just seemed so out of place here.
The Naan bread had good texture, but was shallow in flavor. It looked like it had a little bit of butter on it for flavoring, and that's it.
Our buffet plates were only cleared once, no one asked us if we wanted drinks... it's like once we were sat down, we were just left to our own devices to "figure it out" on our own. No one explained anything to us, no server greated us, we were just there, I guess. I didn't even try any of the desert, as it looked like just the regular flat pudding and cheap basic deserts you'd find at any other buffet.
With all that said, I'm used to really freaking fantastic Indian Food, so everything I've tried since we moved to South Carolina has just pailed in comparison. Again, this food here wasn't bad, it was actually okay, but it just wasn't as good as I was hoping. The flavors just didn't "pop" for me.
The inside of the restaurant also had a very dull and flat look to it. The decor was a mixed bag of a little bit of everything, nothing was consistent about it.
In the end, this is not bad place to eat, for the most part, it was decent, just not great. The prices were on par with the quality of the food. We spent just a little over $30 on a family of four, so not bad at all.
I'll give this place 3 stars, as it's just average in quality and flavor. The service was pretty much non existent. So, I can't even call the service "bad service" as there just...
Read moreIn the beginning went there food was excellent, someone showed Me there when I first visited South Carolina. So years went by and went there by Myself not realizing that I had been here already before. I was still learning South Carolina. Few times food was great others its like the food started tasting like the harsh chemicals they use in the restaurant to clean the floors or counters w, or leaving the mop bucket around it just stinks, I can taste it in My food. Then when the guy cleans up, which is not a problem, but start spraying so much of the glass cleaners, I mean alot of it while eating its just disrespectful and nasty, no consideration. The chemicals are very strong. They start mopping with the stuff smell like fabuloso and I'm eating I don't wanna smell this. Many times I had to return the food, it tasted like they cooked w a cleaner in, so I returned the food, gave Me another plate same food again, I got up and left the food there . It's ridiculous. Not paying to eat chemicals. When they start sweeping and mopping while I'm eating that's a no no....very overstood they gotta clean for next guest to dine, but there are ways to do that. Get one of those roller brooms that rolls on the floor picks up all the stuff so the dust doesn't go all over the place and to people's face and food while eat. Spray the cleaning spray directly in to paper towels so the spray doesn't fly all in the air either, and also should get something that actually cleans not because the smell or should have something that smells polite not offensive. Actually clean the tables w clean soap and clean water everytime not and clean paper towels, not the same old dirty rag, & just w glass cleaners. Keep the chemicals, and mop buckets away from the foods. Should accommodate customers when want a substitute for something else. The cook that was there was great they didn't want to pay him what he was worth. You can tell when...
Read moreRUN! WALK! CRAWL to another restaurant! I've been in Columbia/Lexington for 6 months and this was the absolute worst dine-in experience I've had to date.
The service was horrible. The wait time for anything to happen feels like leap years in between.
We spent 45 minutes waiting for even an appetizer.
My wife ordered a mango lassi almost as soon as we were seated. 2 other tables were sat after us and they got theirs way before my wife. When I mentioned it to the waiter who took our order he seemed surprised that we even ordered one. Then they brought one out and still took it the wrong table. Twice! Once alerted they brought it over and then a secondary one came out. When we said we already received it the hostess asked if we would want to take the one she just brought out. I agreed assuming it was on the house due to the inconvenience of the first one. When I got up to pay my $100 dinner she tried to charge me for the extra mango lassi.
The staffing model is atrocious. I believe it's two people in the kitchen, one host, one busser, one server, one order taker and 100% inefficient. There was a family of 6 that was sitting over from us that literally walked out of the restaurant due to horrible wait times.
The food is bland at best. The prices do not equal the portion nor the quality. I have NEVER left a $0.00 tip. Never. Yet here we are ..
I walked out of this place feeling like I'm the one...
