One if not "THE BEST"meals my wife and I have had. Everything was PERFECT! Simply WONDERFUL!
I am local to the Inlet and I pass this place everyday and never stopped but I had a taste for steak AND seafood tonight and when I Googled "The BEST STEAK near me" this place showed up so I quickly glanced at the reviews and pictures of the food and the wife and I headed out for a early evening dinner.
I ordered Oysters Rockefeller as a starter as I have been on a kick lately as if I see Oysters Rock on a menu I always order it but seriously, this by far was the BEST Oysters Rockefeller I have ever had in my life! I can't put in words just how good this was but now as I type this review I'm thinking I may just order a to-go tomorrow as I'm craving more, these were simply fantastic and a very special dish.
Looking at the menu my wife and I could not decide between the Ribeye or the filet so we agreed to order both and split them, what a wonderful idea as I can't say what one was best and both steaks were incredible! My wife and I both agree these steaks were fantastic and perhaps the BEST STEAK WE HAVE HAD! Both were cooked to perfection and the seasoned butter on one and the cream sauce on the other put this meal over the top...
Then we get to the people working this fine place... All of my family including my wife and children all work locally in the Restaurant industry as living in a Greater Myrtle Beach Grand Strand resort area with over 2,400 restaurants its simply what one must do...
We know the good, the bad and the ugly of the restaurant business so with that in mind, we can say this staff was over the top wonderful!
It all started with our super nice and kind hostess / greeter, she was such a nice lady and she kept dropping over just to check on us, very nice lady! then our server... She was so pleasant and professional and did a wonderful job taking great care of us tonight. Then I assume the manager worked the tables and room with a smile and was so nice checking on use and that we were happy but when you get great service and one if not the best meals of your life, how can you not be happy?
I found this location nice! We had a great view of the inlet with a choice to sit inside or out but we sat in a booth with a large picture window on a beautiful late afternoon enjoying this special Inlet that I am so Blessed to live in and be a part of.
For some reason the outside of this building has been easy for me to pass buy and not stop, perhaps the bland grey paint? the name ? I dont know, but once inside I found this place was very clean, nice view, simply had a good feel and vibe about the place! Bottom line I was able to relax, I was very comfortable and was able to have one if not the best meal experiences of my life!
We arrived early on a Friday night and had no wait time and our food was served fast, food was hot, well plated and all the staff had a smile!
My compliments to the entire staff at American Steak and Oyster Bar from the front of house to the back as I can tell everyone is striving to accomplish exactly what we received tonight... A perfect meal and a perfect experience!

Read moreDon't waste your money at this overpriced, facade of a "steak house". Let's just say, short cuts are for country roads, not the restaurant business. We had a large party having dinner for a friend's birthday. Not a place I would have chosen, but it wasn't MY birthday. Here are some pros and cons. My opinion is that of husband also. However, you can decide for yourself if this sounds like a place you would want to dine at. I, personally, would never recommend it.
First, the restaurant was clean. The server was nice, but slow. Especially given the fact that there were only a few people at the restaurant at the time. The service was mediocre, at best. Don't expect bread or hush puppies to be served. You're out of luck at this place.
The menu has nothing but overpriced fries, burgers, fish and steak. There was nothing that looked the slightest bit "appealing". My friends got the loaded fries. This was a plate of $12, OreIda crinkle cut fries with sparse toppings. I could make these better at home.
We were offered no refills on drinks.
My husband and I ordered the steak special with salad and a loaded baked potato. We also ordered the mushroom fries (happy hour appetizer). I thought they were good, but my husband did not.
We received our "salad". Ugh.....that was the kicker. They serve you about a cup of salad. Literally, a CUP of salad. Might I add, half FROZEN salad. This salad was so cold that you could tell the lettuce leaves had been frozen and then thawed. It was the worst. Like eating frozen lettuce with a half of a grape tomato and two slices of cucumber. My husband didn't eat his and I only picked at mine. When our meal came, the steak itself was good. The "loaded" baked potato had some orange goo on it that I assume was supposed to be cheese. There was a few bacon crumbles and we had to ask for butter and sour cream. I have never in my life received a baked potato in a restaurant sans butter and sour cream.
One of my friends ordered the steak "medallions". They were literally the diameter of a silver dollar. Three of them. For $30. Not worth it.
When we left, my husband said, "We will never go back there". I agree. I also would never recommend this place. It was highly disappointing for it to be Murrell's Inlet. There are way better choices further...
Read moreWhat happened in the matter of two months? We visited in May and were blown away and impressed. We returned tonight and can't recall a more horrible dining experience in our lives. It started with drinks. The rosemary tom collins was served with no rosemary flavor in it. The bartender informed us "we don't have any rosemary." So why even serve/make the drink? We were also told there was no southern comfort yet a full bottle was on display behind the bar. It took forever to get our drinks and we were one of three tables in the restaurant at that time. We ordered two appetizers. One of which never made it's way out. It was peel and eat shrimp and the server informed us they were having to make it "fresh." This is Murrells Inlet. How do you not have a dish as simple as peel and eat shrimp ready? I ordered the ribeye rare. By the time the food came out the ribeye was well done because it sat under the heat lamp so long. I sent it back requesting one cooked correctly. This was the kicker... They not only sent the server out with a piece of grey, yes grey, prime rib that looked microwaved, but also told the server to yell at me. The menu was cut in half from our first visit and when I approached the manager to tell him how bad our experience was I felt challenged. He asked me to name the reasons we were having a bad experience and I had to tell him "Dude, you know why. You know how long we waited for the appetizer which came out after the entrees." I then told him about the southern comfort we were told wasn't in stock and the fact they tried to pass off a piece of microwaved prime rib as a ribeye. We also ordered two side salads which never made it out either. As we were leaving we saw two other tables sending their food back. We felt sorry for our server. We feel sorry for all the servers. This horribly run establishment is costing its servers tips. It was so bad we told two parties waiting outside to go elsewhere. We are not only locals, but natives. And that's just not who you want having a bad experience. The only correct thing on the menu was where it said "Proprietors: Two guys that don't know...
