Wednesday Evening Sept 24, 2025 around 5:15pm. Starters the food was not worth it. Expecting it to be great since they are charging $16.99 a buffet like Judy Boone’s and the location. Not the case. The biscuits and rolls were rock hard. Break your tooth almost hard. An older lady handed a biscuit to the waitress very frustrated saying the same. Waitress took it and said “I’ll let them know” in a sarcastic tone. Another older couple must have not seen the knives as they asked her for some. She walked over and grabbed some out the knife holder and gave the girl at the counter an eye roll walking back to them as if she was bothered in helping. Also gave a snarky look at her coworker when they asked for croutons that were empty on the bar. Rice was dried out and crispy on top as if it had been sitting there for hours and/or over cooked. Should had been thrown out and not put out to serve. Gravy tasted burnt. All around the flavor was ok, but not great by any means. Kind of all tasted the same. Back to the server. Honestly there was only one waitress and another younger girl at the register. They sounded the same when speaking to customers as if they say the same lines over and over and not with a smile. Just robotic with no signs of southern hospitality. Maybe sisters? Feel you all needed to hear this as I was looking so forward to trying it on a special occasion and was so disappointed. Reviews on here tricked me. Went to work the next day and two other girls confirmed that yes it’s horrible there. Food and atmosphere much much better down the road at Judy Boone’s who I have only heard great things...
Read moreIt's been a few years since I've been to Back Home BBQ and they held the title of ‘My favorite All-You-Can-Eat BBQ place’ for quite some time. I would highly recommend Back Home BBQ if you find yourself looking for good BBQ in the Murrell's Inlet area.
This time we stopped by on a Tuesday morning at opening in December. The buffet is $12 for an adult lunch and they do accept credit cards. The restaurant gradually filled and judging by the waitress’ conversations, most of the customers are frequent patrons or friends to the staff. I was reminded of the TV show Cheers theme song, as it seemed each person there was known by name. What a nice and welcoming atmosphere.
The comfort food style buffet is plentiful and there is something for everyone here. Everything I've sampled was very good, but as you know by now I'm here to review one item- BBQ Pulled Pork. The BBQ is flavored well, and a tad drier. As to be expected at buffets, no smoky flavor or bark. There are 2 options for sauce, a red vinegar and a mustard. The red vinegar is great and my go to choice. It's sauce like you'd expect to find and pairs great with the BBQ. I cannot say the same for the mustard sauce. In all fairness, I'm not a huge fan of mustard sauce so I'm probably not the best to take advice from. The flavor was fair and very strong with French's yellow mustard.
We enjoyed ourselves and after several plates of BBQ, we left full. Back Home BBQ is definitely worth the trip or if you live close should be a regular buffet stop. Don't look for Sam or Diane, there is an even better cast here. We look forward...
Read moreTo whom it may concern,
On an unsuspecting Saturday afternoon, my friends and I searched for a dining establishment that could fulfill our nearly insatiable cravings for high quality food and copious amounts of protein. Options were slim considering our college student budget. However, thanks to the intervention of the Holy Spirit, we were divinely inspired and had a heaven sent revelation leading us to Back Home BBQ.
A homey and cozy southern food establishment with a simple menu: breakfast buffet, lunch buffet, and dinner buffet. My friends and I had little say in what to choose, as we were there at lunch time. Our experience was quickly paradoxically usurped as we found ourselves standing at the doors of heaven, heaven being a bountiful selection of southern BBQ classics all cooked to perfection and freshly laid out for our gratification.
Any expectations we had were obliterated by the reality of Back Home BBQ. Even after seeing Auntie herself serving the fried chicken, every item in that buffet line was far more exquisite than we could have ever predicted. It was truly an out of body experience. So much so, I consumed as many calories in the hour long period I was there as I had in the entire week leading up to our appearance at Back Home BBQ.
At this point, it’s needless to say, please, for the sake of your tongue, body, heart, and soul, partake in the buffet at Back Home BBQ and have your life changed...
