I'm usually pretty forgiving with local restaurants, but I wish I could give 0 stars. I was lured in by the good reviews and appetizing pictures but the food we received looked anything but appetizing. The food tasted okay, but is definitely not something I would ever recommend or get again. We ordered the hash stack and the crab cake Benedict. I also got grapefruit juice that was a very gross brown color and very bitter (I know grapefruit juice is sour but this was bitter). The hash stack looked very good on the picture in the menu and was supposed to include hash browns, scrambled eggs, sausage, gravy, bacon, and cheese. The one we received had no hash browns but rather had large chunks of potato that I think were supposed to resemble home fries but were nothing like any home fries I've ever had. The hash stack also had no sausage, one large chunk of egg that was not scrambled, and tiny bacon bits like the kind you buy in grocery stores to top salads. Very misleading advertising and when we asked our waitress about it she just said "that's how they always make it." The crab cake Benedict was unimpressive at best and kind of gross at worst. I really REALLY like crab cakes and eggs benedict is consistently my favorite breakfast item, so I was excited. Unfortunately, I was seriously let down. The crab cake was mushy and fishy and the egg was over poached. There was barely any runny yolk in the egg. Our orders were supposed to come with sides of cinnamon swirl toast and fresh fruit with an English muffin, respectively. At first, our waitress forgot to bring them (which is completely fine, she said she was new and we weren't upset about that at all), so I had to go find her and tell her about our seemingly incorrect order and missing sides, to which she was not very kind or accommodating and following this she was short with us. She did eventually bring our side dishes out, but the cinnamon swirl toast looked nothing like the photos on the menu and was actually your standard cinnamon raisin toast from the grocery store. The fruit cup was a tiny dish like the one most restaurants would use for dressings or an extra side of cheese. Overall, we were disappointed...
Read moreEarlier this week, I had the opportunity to enjoy breakfast at Applewood House of Pancakes. I don't normally find myself in Litchfield, but my father was having a surgical procedure done about a half mile from the restaurant.
We arrived at the restaurant about a quarter til 9 and were seated a few minutes after we got there. Our server told us about the "early bird" menu options and gave us a few minutes review the extensive menu. When she returned to take our orders, she indicated that she needed to quickly enter our "early bird" orders into the order-entry system because it was approaching 9 am, which is the last opportunity to order any of the "early bird" items.
Our server returned moments later with our beverages, and then we waited for our food. At 9:30 am, she returned again and told us our food would be ready shortly, but it wasn't until 9:45 am that our food was brought out!
The food was delicious and the portions were generous. We asked why it took so long to receive our food and our server indicated that the kitchen was short-handed that morning. The explanation is perfectly reasonable, but unfortunately I can't go higher than 3 stars for my rating since this review is intended to be based on my...
Read moreOur server Grace did a fantastic job. She checked on us often, and was very friendly. The food was okay, we had pancakes, stuffed French toast , eggs, home fries. The buffet was not good at all, I don’t recommend it for sure. We could tell it was under new ownership. Menu changes , pricing were higher, and atmosphere was different. I highly recommend not putting tables together if they aren’t even, the person sitting in middle can’t eat when the plate is toggling on two different tables. (I manage a restaurant so I know why you do that , but the tables need to be flush). That was frustrating. It was also disgusting to look up and see the ceiling tiles had water damage with mold growth on them. We almost walked out because of that. If that is how the restaurant looks where the public is , makes a person wonder what the back of the restaurant looks like. Applewood has always been one of our favorites at Pawleys Island. On a side note, an employee was doing a great job keeping up with bussing tables and cleaning them after...
