El Jimador Viejo — Restaurant in South Carolina

This review comes after being a frequent customer for a while (at least once a week- sometimes more). Simply put, this place has gone downhill. Over time, the food quality has gotten worse and worse. The other issue is the service. The other night I had to place a to-go order on Grubhub because no one would answer the phone. When I got home with the food I noticed there were a few things wrong- enough to have to call and see about getting it fixed. Luckily got someone on the phone and said they would remake the entire order. Sounds good, right? When I was pulling into the restaurant parking lot the manager called me. Instead of explaining what happened and being apologetic, he put the blame on Grubhub and said I would need to call them to sort it out. Mind you- this was over some missing peppers/onions for fajitas (2 orders) and 2 missing tacos (from a 3 taco order). I walked inside and the manager tried to prove that Grubhub was the problem. I simply proved that theory wrong, but I shouldn’t have been put in that position in the first place. He begrudgingly agreed to make the peppers/onions and two tacos. Even after all that, I had requested (on the Grubhub order and to his face) the veggies be well done. They were barely cooked. Nice.

Just left the movies and came here for dinner. It was our first time here and we were quite disappointed with the experience, overall.

The food wasn't fresh or flavorful. The dining environment had an unpleasant odor. The waiter didn't seem to be in any sort of hurry to take our drink orders or come around for food orders. I could understand the wait if the restaurant was busy, but there seemed to be maybe 3 tables of people while we were dining.

I ordered the Fajitas Trio. The steak was unseasoned and tough. The chicken was cooked nicely, but somewhat dry. The shrimp didn't taste very fresh and had an abnormally fishy taste. The vegetables that were underneath weren't cooked very well. They were soggy and had a sour taste to them. It was as if they took a frozen bag mixed vegetables out and let it sit, then slightly warmed them up after being left out for hours.

I'd give this dining experience no stars, or negative stars, if I could. I do not recommend...

I’ve came here plenty of times and I’ve even had my order wrong, but it was fixed with no issue - happens to the best of us. Today, I was served a plate that wasn’t what I ordered. When I let them know, they returned with the same order and sides of everything that was already supposed to be in it. I told the server that it was still not as I ordered, but thank you anyway. He proceeded to stand there and question me, not once but multiple times saying “what’s the difference?” I took the food and said it’s fine. It was a tad bit embarrassing how he responded to that situation when I only wanted what I initially ordered. If I knew it was going to be like that, I would’ve taken the plate and dealt with it. We ate, paid, tipped, and left, but it will be the last time I spend my hard earned dollars there. Telling myself he may have been stressed, and I know how that is.
