I visited Plankowner last Friday at about 4:30 after work. When I walked in, there were 2 bartenders, a party of three sampling beer, and a reasonably full bar. Since this was my first visit, I stayed back and out of the way until I read the beer menu and was ready to make an order. Once I knew what I wanted, I couldn't find a clear place make my order, and with the party of 3 standing between 2 empty bar seats, I just moved around either side of them and tried to make eye contact with anyone behind the counter. Neither bartender was interested in moving quickly or efficiently and I felt as if they were actively avoiding me. There was nobody in the seating area, so I am baffled as to how they would perform if they had more than the 12 customers they had at that point. They have about 20 taps, but only about 10 or so were available and only roughly half of those were their own brews. That's not a knock since they are still very new and it takes time to produce a quality beverage. That said, I was not very impressed with what they had. I had tried a Plankowner collaboration beer with Ciclops before they had opened and it set the bar pretty high, unfortunately it was not available here. The decoration is simple and aesthetically coherent in the bar area. It feels a bit like a fish camp, but it goes with the theme. There are not really any comfortable seats, except at the bar and a handful that had cushions in the larger seating area. I'm assuming that's why the bar was full and the rest of the area was empty. Either way, it was not conducive to staying for an extended period of time. There was a live band that was warming up on a dedicated stage area that I see being the biggest draw to this venue over others. The acoustics sounded nice and it wasn't going to be too loud for the space like I've experienced in other places. All in all, it was a mediocre and underwhelming experience, but I believe when they get their staff trained to be more efficient and attentive and they get some more of their own product on tap, this will be a pretty kickin'...
Read moreAfter seeing reviews here, we ventured to the Plankowner Brewery at Hwy 9 and 85. First, the place seems super clean. The employee, the head brewer, I think, who helped us was super friendly and welcoming. The Chicken Philly, which may not be on the menu daily, was delish! The chicken was tender and the additions were cooked perfectly. It is also offered with a sirloin strip option. The patty melt also seemed to be good, as my husband got it. They have only chips as a side, but they are the Ms. Vicky's kind and offer them in about 6 flavors. The interior is nice. We were there for what ended up being a late lunch/early dinner, so it wasn't crowded. You can sit at tables or at the bar area. They also have a patio, but it has no shelter for a sunny or rainy day. The beer choices are vast, with the machines working their hoppy magic across the restaurant. I got the Blackberry Cider, a 6% alcohol, and it was really, really good. The Scurvy Dog is reminiscent of Blue Moon, but better. The friendly customer service, focus on having good food items, and the specialized beer options make this a great place to try. Check out the hours (closed M and T) and age restrictions, as those have limitations. We'll be back, and thank you, owners, for understanding presentation, cleanliness, and friendly...
Read moreI found this place while in the area for work. It is conveniently located right off of the interstate
There is a large open seating area and a bar area with a long bar that has 4 or 5 fermentation across from it. The brewery is open and visible from the bar. This is a nice space, with a rustic charm.
The food was good, I got the hot ham and swiss sandwich with chips. The other guys with me got burgers. Everything was very good.
They had twenty beers on tap, I had the Black IPA, and the Smoked Vienna Lager. Both beers were quite good. I was particularly impressed with the Black IPA, it was one of the best examples of the style I have tried, I would say it is comparable to Stone Sublimely Self Righteous. The other guys had the Pale Ale and the Witbier, both said that their beers were good as well.
The bartender was attentive and friendly, and the food came out quick.
Overall, I really enjoyed this place and will be back when I am in...
