Edited to add: After posting this review, I have gone mostly Keto. That doesn’t change a thing for me at Takis! It’s so nice to be able to order fresh food that fits into my nutrition plan. Their Greek grilled chicken adds so much flavor, and the American Chicken melt (no bread) with peppers, onions, and a little bit of cheese are delightful! Omelettes are made fresh to order and can be a healthy, high protein meal for me. Also, their side salads add a great PUNCH of flavor as they come with delicious, healthy veggies already added- not like the bland salads most places serve up. There are so many options available no matter your dietary needs. Kudos to you Takis, for continuing excellent service and helping me meet my healthy goals!
So you know that lovely idea of an old-fashioned home-town diner? THIS IS IT AND MORE! I live nearby and this place has been consistently delicious from the time I was a young child until now that I am a grown woman with three kids of my own. They feature affordable rotating blue-plate style specials daily which are easily located on their Fb page ...or just call them and ask. You'll get the menu listing as well as a side of southern charm. Some of my favorites are the quesadilla, the 3 appetizer platter, and the grilled chicken sandwich. For as long as I can remember my dad has ordered the "Elvis" burger and it has always come out just right. This is a place where food is affordable and where community comes together. Expect to be greeted with a warm welcome and enjoy a plethora of options from old fashioned American standards to incredible Greek dishes as well. The owners are well known in town and are humble, kind, and community oriented. I can comfortably send one of my kids in to pick up food to-go and know that they will be treated kindly and that the food will be just right. If you are nearby, don't miss this small town Darlington institution...and have a chuckle at the decor! Tell them Laci sent you and grab a piece of coconut pie to go!

Read moreTaki''s is one of the reasons that I love living in this area. While it's missing the Jukebox players at the dining room tables that I remember so well from the 'early days' of other diner's I've known; it still has that kind of atmosphere. The staff is attentive, and the food is great every time I visit.
Often when I drop by, I will admit I have a go to meal that I pick. I just can't resist the James Dean. I don't know if it's the Monterey Jack, or the grilled Mushrooms, but I just can't get enough of this sandwich. But, I've tried a lot of the dishes on the menu, and I've enjoyed everything I had. Today, I stopped for breakfast and tried their classic breakfast of 2 eggs, 2 pancakes, & country ham. A cup of hot chocolate, perfect for this rainy cold morning, and a glass of orange juice. A pretty typical breakfast, and it was delicious. Let's just say I was prepared to head out into the cold only to discover my car wouldn't start. A local diner tried to give the car a jump start, which didn't work, but it was a nice gesture, much appreciated. The place is that friendly. Fortunately the place next door had a battery, and I got going shortly after that.
I suppose that I fell in love with Taki's the first time I ran into Marilyn Monroe, or an almost life sized replica of her, and Elvis on my first visit. Or, the first time I ordered the James Dean, and the place reminded me of a diner I used to visit. Either way, Taki's has great diner food, and a lot of nice people go there. It doesn't matter when you go; they're usually busy; but there's always plenty of seating. I never wait long to get fed, the kitchen is quick. And, now I have to add that the first time my car broke down, someone was nice enough to try to help me out.
In addition to the 50's charm of Taki's they also carry on their menu a lot of Southern favorites, the menu has enough variety to please anyone. It's a nice clean family diner; try it...
Read moreTaki has great food. I used to eat there at least once a week. It could use some updating but that’s not a big issue. Their major issue, and the reason we quit going , is the service! A friend and I went on Valentine’s Day last year. We both ordered the same Valentine’s Day special. You could either eat off the salad bar or get a Greek salad. I ordered the salad bar and fixed my plate and began to eat while waiting on the entree. My friend ordered the Greek salad and it did not come out until they brought the entrees. Since that took some time, I asked him if he would like a piece of cantaloupe off of my plate while he waited. He did. When his salad finally came, he simply said that he wished his salad had come out before his food. The waitress, a lady with short gray hair and lots of arm tattoos, immediately got defensive and took our bill and wrote something on it. When we got ready to go, she had added another salad bar charge to our bill in addition to the two specials which both came with salads anyway. When questioned, the cashier took it off and kinda shook her head. They also have a teenage girl who waits tables but she is never around when you need tea and acts like it’s a problem if you need ketchup or something. Maybe one day we’ll go back. I miss the food but I work too hard for my money to be treated poorly as a customer. Darlington has other good places to eat that appreciate...
