I've been to ten to fifteen La Michoacana Premium locations, some in California and some in Illinois. This one is my favorite of all I go to. It isn't perfect, but very close! The aqua - or water - based ice creams are indescribably delicious. For a long time, the mango y chile (or chamoy, depending on location) was my favorite of these. At this location, the pepino with chile (and maybe lime) and the escamocha are just as good, if not better. I could eat those every day. The cucumber water is also very good. I have always had excellent service - I've been five to eight times so far. The pricing it higher than Illinois, but that could be for many reasons. It does keep me from going as often as I want to, though. There are two things that the Chicago (Lawrence Ave) store does better. The corn is cut from the cob for the esquites. Not sure if that is why it tastes better than here or the brand of the corn, but Chicago's is better. Most important to me is that the queso ice cream is not the same as Chicago. The South Gate location doesn't have zarzamora y queso, just one called queso. In Chicago, you can feel some of the curds from the queso - I like that. It's too smooth at South Gate. I thought the flavor different, too, but it could just be that the texture was different or that the fruit in there changes it in subtle ways. Whatever the cause, Chicago does those two things...
Read moreI've been to this location twice and both times had a bad experience. A mature woman with dyed brassy hair that I believe might be the manager is absolutely rude. The first time I ordered fresas con crema she was glaring at the employee who was preparing it. Then came over and scolded him in front of me for putting too many strawberries. I thought it was so unprofessional for not waiting to bring it to his attention til I left and he looked humiliated, I felt bad for him. Second time o got her as the server and when I asked for ice cream with strawberries she acted like she had no clue what I was taking about. Then she said she would make it but that they don't sell that, which I've ordered at other Muchoacana. Anyway I also ordered a cone and 2 paletas she proceeded to charge me and gave me my order except for the ice cream and strawberries. I was confused as she walked away but didn't even bother, to tell me I can't do special order or anything. Just acted like I never ordered it, if she would'vetold me it was extra I would pay it or that she wasn't going to make it I would've ordered something else. At that point I decided this location won't get my money or business anymore. She's very condescending to customers and employees from .what I've observed...
Read moreThis is my first and last time in this location. La Michoacana is my absolute favorite and there customer service is always so great and friendly however, I came in at 1:30 pm with my 3 kids in this location. There were two woman working the counter and did not acknowledge us which I found strange. There was a couple that had already ordered and was at a table waiting for there order. We waiting in line for about 5 min and the two ladies still didn't acknowledge us. After 2 guys came in and waited behind us. I told my kids to stay in line while I look at the ice cream. I was barely 2 feet away when she call the two guys completely ignoring my kids and even myself being there way before them. There was literally no one in line but us until they came in. I said excuse me 5 times until the guy told her I was calling her. Extremely rude and not considerate. Does not understand or even care to let the customer in line know you will be right with them nor call you in order. I told her you saw us waiting, why did you call them. No reply of course. I felt really mistreated and if it wasn't for my kids wanting ice cr3am I would of just left. Something that was suppose to be fun was ruin my two...
