I went here specifically for the crispy duck banh mi. I originally had it at the Clement location, loved it, but it was too far from my house.
First time I went, I noticed the high prices compared to other places in the area but I’m willing to pay money for good food. I ordered the crispy duck banh mi for my family, and we were all suitably impressed enough to go back. The bread did not seem very fresh but nothing a broil in the toaster oven couldn’t fixed. There were certainly plenty of duck in every bite!
The second time we went was just before the holidays, the bread were again somewhat stale. The duck was a lot less about half the amount when we first went. We get it, duck is expensive and there are different chefs working at any given day but half the amount of duck from the previous visit? Maybe you should do what other delis do and weigh your meat so they’re all the same portions?
The third visit was about a month later immediately after the holidays. My sister bragged about it to her boss that she convinced her to get the crispy duck banh mi. We were embarrassed! There were just a few sliver of duck that we couldn’t even taste them in some bites. Bread was, of course, slightly stale.
If the restaurant was running low on duck, maybe just advertise them as sold out instead of charging customers $15 for some pickled veggies.
Clement location might be farther but we’ll probably just drive there since we actually want duck when we pay $15 for...
Read moreReally good place. Probably the best grilled lemongrass pork in the area. I only knocked one star off for the price, since Vietnamese food has always been considered cheaper food but this place is not cheap. (Average about $10/dish) the Vietnamese coffee was awesome, and the bahn mis are huge ($6-$7). I got the lemongrass pork rice plate and a coffee, with a 10% tip it set me back just under $17. The portion is fair, though, as I needed a to go container for the last ten bites. The large pork chop had a sizable amount of fat, which I love (it carries the most flavor) and the salad is plain, but compliments the meat well. I only wish pickled veggies were served on the side. Before I left, I got a bahn mi for my lunch tomorrow, since they looked absolutely amazing. The decor is simple, with a decent amount of seating. There could be more, but it would cramp the place, and this cafe strikes more of a to-go place (plenty of people ordered to go while I was waiting for food). This place is easy to find (I stumbled on it while walking on Grand Ave) and has good service. The wait for my food was about 10 minutes, the drink came within 3 minutes of me sitting down. When I ordered the bahn mi to go it took less than ten minutes. I will be back...
Read moreThis place is Very good. The broth is very appealing to the palate. It is quite pricey. The last few times I’ve come here though, my order is always wrong. For example: I asked for 5 spice chicken and received bbq pork chops. Another day, I asked for chicken spring rolls but got shrimp. Don’t get me wrong I still ate the food but what’s up with the service? Finally after a while since they kept getting it wrong, I had to call them and let them know. Their excuse was sorry I didn’t hear it over the phone. But hey! I repeated my order 3 times and you did too. C’mon! Really? There was another time I came in and ordered spring rolls and service made me wait almost an hour to get my order finally. Really??? For spring rolls? The management should really talk to the people running their restaurant and their kitchen. What a joke! I guess I’ll take my business over to Ben Tre up the block! Their service is always good and food is...
