Oh man. Complicated feelings about this place.
The food? So legit. I should’ve known I was in for something incredibly special when the line was packed at 12:45pm on a Friday, with equal parts yuppies and hippies and people who looked like they had just walked off a construction work site. The woman in front of me in line turned around and spoke to me in Portuguese, and I’d say 80% of people who ordered did so in Portuguese as well, so that alone was super promising. Everything I ate was amazing. The bife lunch platter ($15) was insanely huge and insanely flavorful, and served with incredible beans, surprisingly tasty steamed veggies and rice, as well as a cole slaw and fresh salad. (For reference, I was decently hungry and only managed to eat less than half). The coconut and mozzarella bread was also really tasty – just a surprising combination of fatty, salty, and sweet flavors that really works.
I’m docking a star here because it took around 40 minutes for my takeout order to be prepared. I would have really liked to know it would take so long as I was getting some food prior to a flight; it was just really stressful and since the place was so busy, the person taking orders told me I could either wait or he could cancel my order…later (and I wasn’t comfortable just trusting that he would...
Read moreWow. Just simply wow. We have known about this place for many years, but it seems to be just far enough out of our usual routes to make a stop. But, today, between City Hall and the Caltrain station, my partner and I made our first huge leap towards complete addiction. A former co-worker, Adrian, made this place a regular stop of his, and he spoke so incredibly highly of everything they did, and also the people doing these wonderful things. But now, it seems we won't need too much of an excuse to make our way to yummy Pao de Queiho, Torta de Frango (her fave), Kibe (my fave) ,and Americano de Presunto (my fave). Yeah, so I have 2 faves- call them co-faves- next time we will try more of the menu and I might make it to 5 of them! ; ) We were in a bit of a hurry so I stayed in the car, but we cannot wait to return soon and enjoy the cute outside cafe tables and delicious beverages that Adrian has told me about. Bravo,...
Read moreYummy gem in the neighborhood. We were craving pao de queijo (Brazilian cheese bread) and they didn't disappoint. They have small and large options (we went for 6 large) plus tried some other things: Acai bowls - 9/10 ordered 2 larges. Each was a good size for 2 to share Conxinha - creamy chicken inside - one of our faves Kibe - probably our fave of the beef Disco - this was too dry for our liking Bregues - ham, sausage, tomato - pretty tasy Rissole - beef & corn. they forgot this one, so we'll have to try again :( Rosca (coconut bread) - so yummy and soft
We ordered at the Cafe, it was about 10 minutes wait in line then 15-20 for our food. I recommend ordering online if you can. A little confusing at the cafe as some items have different fillings (like rissole also has shrimp OR corn/cheese). We spent over $100 for 6 people but we were greedy to try everything. Overall would...
