I went here for the first time with my son and mom just to enjoy a day away from home and the heat where we live. This review is a combination of all three of us!
Food: good quality for a lot of it. Meat was clearly a nice cut, and almost none of it had gristle.
Cleanliness: The main area is great, and the woman's bathroom is atrocious. Stalls are held up by duct tape in multiple spots.
Flavors: Now, this is where the real critique is going to be....
•Coconut shrimp: disgusting. So salty, I couldn't eat just one serving spoon of it. •salt and pepper shrimp/chicken: bland and shrimp was mushy. •Mongolian pork: almost flavorless. •Dim sum: burnt. Tasted like spam and unseasoned ground pork mixed together. •Sushi: YUMMMMM! •Sho Mi Buns: So good 👍 •Custard buns: Ohh, so much flavor. •General Tso chicken: less spicy than expected but cooked perfectly 🥰 •Salad bar: There are so many fruit choices! Loved that. 💯 •Char Sui bao: gone. If they're anything like the other buns, they're amazing. •Stuffed mushrooms: overcooked, decent flavor, but DANG, they were greasy. •Three delicacies(?): Good. Tasted a bit like a warm crab salad with cream cheese added. •Pot stickers/goyza: Flawlessly done ✔️ •Pizza: a little overcooked but good. Could have used more pepperoni. •Fries: amazing and cooked to crispy perfection. Son at half of a plate in record time. •Swiss coffee roll: 🤤 More, please!!! •Broccoli Beef: Good broccoli, but didn't grab any beef tbh. I just wanted veggies from some areas, lol. •tiramisu cakes: flavors to die for. If you love strawberry cakes, then you better save room for this dish. •Mongolian BBQ grill area: didn't try. •Chow mein: mom said it tasted like Panda Express, lol. •string beans: good flavor, cooked perfectly. •lemon shrimp, roast fish, oysters, etc.: didn't try. Fish was overcooked, I don't do oysters, and my mom wasn't in the mood. Lemon shrimp looked pretty delicious, but I was nervous about mushy shrimp after the disappointment from the salt and pepper shrimp. •Soups: they looked good, but we didn't try them.
Overall combined food rating:
4/5 for the ones we liked 2.5/5 for anything under/over seasoned or burnt.
This isn't a horrible restaurant, but it's not an amazing one either. They definitely have potential, though, if the cooks would turn down the stoves and grills a touch. Also, lay off the salt and oil too in some dishes. Seriously. That coconut shrimp was the worst I've ever had in all...
Read moreOutside + inside is very run down. The outside is next to a closed down hotel. It was missing parts of the roof, paint was heavily chipping, + I almost thought the place was abandoned/closed down until I saw the lighted open sign. When I came in, the woman/customer in front of me (not a vendor of any sort) had 3 whole defrosting chickens in a bag that she was trying to give to the restaurant employee which he went ahead + took. He seemed kinda frazzled as customers, (my family + I), were right in front of them watching the whole transaction... weird? Do they take ingredients from anywhere? The inside was pretty worn out + there were water stains on the ceiling. Employee areas looked dirty + unkempt. The shu mai + stuffed mushrooms were LITERALLY burnt to a CRISP, but still being served. Alot of the food was pretty oily. I got 2 crab legs to examine + smell to make sure it wasn't bad. It was pretty salty, but still had the sweetness as it should. I also had the mussels, cheesy imitation crab, + coconut shrimp which were all very oily. Tasted okay, but again, very oily. The imitation crab was overcooked + was mushy under the cheese. I had the cheesy salmon + the salmon for some reason, tasted watered down + bland. The bok choy was fine. Green beans tasted meh + lost their slight crunch. Steamed spicy fish was not spicy + didn't have much flavor. I skipped the sushi because I was afraid of getting sick. The food was definitely cold + the only thing that was really hot were the soups. I had the fish ball soup + it was okay. I liked the broth, but not the fishballs. They were stuffed with this brown filling, not sure what it was. The back soda area + ice cream area was SUPER filthy. Overall, I got there + was VERY sketched out with the food because of how the outside + the inside of the place looked. The food was edible, didn't see/find any bugs, + I'm not sick so that's good. Um, I probably would not recommend anyone to this place. It was more of a last resort as I was starving. I feel like somebody needed to call that Restaurant 911 show. This place needs a complete renovation, restoration, + a visit from the health inspector. Sucks I didn't get pictures... Oh also, the vinyl mat sign over the old monument sign says, "The...
Read moreIt is day and night compared with the old management. Food is bearable in the tradition of greasy Chinese food, table servers are attentive for extras like drinks, but the zero greeting you get on entry and the shoddy business practice with billing means you don't at all feel welcomed or wish to return. We were a large party (12) so we had to wait. Fine. When we were called to the table, the staff told us "you can have this table but you must eat fast. We have it booked for 2 pm." No "enjoy your meal" or "I'm sorry this table may be needed at 2:00 pm" Knowing the local timings for buffet eaters in the Bay Area, we knew this was nonsense and it was confirmed at 2 when almost all customers had left and there were no lines trying to get in! We had told the greeter that we had 10 seniors and 2 younger people in our party. The bill came to the table with no query about number of seniors even though many of us were clearly in that category, and we assumed it was correct and didn't check thoroughly. We paid at the front desk and then one of us asked if we got the discount. The response was "You should have told us before you paid the bill" and refused to back out the charge and make a new one. Of course we could just let Chase bank take care of this and decline the charge but it is too much bother and we would like the staff to get their 15% tips - if that is in fact what happens. But we hope if this happens to anyone else they will teach this place a lesson in customer service and decline the card. We advise finding another place to eat - which is by far...
