Mai Phi Authentic Asian Cuisine — Restaurant in Southern Pines

I really wanted to love this place as my family was traveling from out of town and wanted authentic Thai food. I have an extensive restaurant background and was extremely disappointed when we sat there for approximately 40-minutes before we were even given a drink. I would not have paid much attention to it except for the party that was sitting behind us managed to get drinks and food in the time it took us to even place a drink order. The waiter, who assisted us stated he was the only one working and had all of the tables in the restaurant to take care of, solely.

The food did come out relatively quickly, despite the extreme delay in getting drinks. It was good. My drunken noodles had a few spots where to noodles were a bit hard but the flavor was spot on and the fresh rolls were great.

I don’t think I’ve ever had to complain about gratuity, but to add it for four adults and two children under the age of three who didn’t eat was a bit confusing. As I said, I understand the restaurant business and how it works, and I also know that I am an extremely generous tipper. We were in a hurry to get back on the road so I did not question this and unfortunately this was his loss.

All -in -all, this place is OK, but I don’t think we will return as the service was in my opinion, unacceptable. The food is worth a try if you’re in the area, however, I would recommend getting it to go unless you have an abundance of time to sit and wait...

First timers... Lots of variety of the menu. Was intentional on having pho and other Vietnamese dishes. The wait was forever long... Our dumpling appetizer was delivered with a complimentary dish of another fried item. Appreciate the effort but two fried items makes it seem intentional on a future mistake. Hmm ok. Almost all the tables foods were wrong or had a long wait. Some of our main dishes were delivered. No worries. Wait is this rice or flour? No one knew. (Someone later was really sick ...) Some of the food later was delivered wrong. They attempted to correct it but, once again, that was late - all other parties at the table were finished. Packing up to go, the ticket and deliverance of to go items were delivered late. I understand short staff and a bad day or busy day ... Sadly we most likely won't be back. On to finding the best pho (vietnamese restaurant) around *see reply from owner I didn't visit this place okay. this is the correct restaurant! I visited a couple weeks ago on a Friday night. Place was clean and looked semi modern though still Asian parts in the decor bar in the middle and booths at the side.

Guy seemed taken snack when i arrived at 11AM. He was nice with the orders and even ensured my done in out fast bec I didn't have much time in between appointments.

The red curry with chicken and rice was yum!!! Halfway through, was a little bit salty than i expected, but yum! Spiced just right and sufficient quantity of meat.

The spring rolls are pretty nice! There was texture on how they shredded the veggies.

Take home beef pho and the tom yum noodles. Tasted the broths when I got home. Beef pho was abso amazing full of flavor! The N4 tom yum noodles was kinda disappointing. Unsure but has strong taste of fish sauce. I hope out it was very cooked very well bec I'll have allergy issues later.

Mall(ish) parking lot is crazy on how to get out because of the mostly one car size pathway and 1 way to enter and exit.

I will definitely be back. Should've tried the NS something with crispy noodles instead of the N4. Will be trying that out next and the...
