I stayed at this hotel for one night recently because of its convenient location off I-84 in Southington, CT. The young woman who checked me in was pleasant and efficient but that is about the nicest thing I can say about this hotel. It was obvious (I was walking with a cane) that I could have used some assistance carrying my bag to the room but there was no one available to help me. So, I walked down a long hallway carrying my bag with some difficulty. When I got in the room, the bathroom tub was leaking from the spout and I was unable to get it to stopped. It was very loud and would not be conducive to sleep so I walked back to the front desk and asked for another room. I was given the key to another room, much further down the hallway, and as soon as I opened the door, I was hit with the blast of strong cigarette smoke. So, I walked back to the front desk, explained the situation and was given a key to a third room. But, again, I had to walk all the way down the hallway to the third room which was quite a distance.
No one told me I could have driven down to an external access door closer to my room instead of walking down a very long hallway. It wasn't until later that I learned about this door (controlled by a hotel key lock) near my room right off the parking area. I was told this was a secure door but it was NOT. When I tried to use my key access, the machine did not even light up but the door was already unlocked. From about 3 pm when I arrived in the room, until midnight, people were coming in the door without using any key access. Sometime after midnight, the door WAS locked and people came to the door and pounded on it to gain access to the hotel which was very disturbing. It did not make me feel very safe or secure.
There were handicapped parking slots near the front entrance but there were none near the external access door mentioned above. There should have been a few slots near the external access door for that purpose. And guests, especially those who are visibly disabled, should be told they can drive to that door and enter the building there instead of walking down a long hallway.
The room was nice and clean. The sleeping area was obviously renovated but only a part of the bathroom was new. The bath/shower needed some intensive cleaning. The room had no alarm clock but there was one on the microwave, the refrigerator was not level (when you touched the door it tipped over), there was no pen or pad of paper near the phone, and there was no coffee or tea maker in the room.
The "included" breakfast was appalling. There were some whole apples, dried cereal, orange juice and pancake batter to make your own pancakes. No toast, muffins, pastries. And the food service counter was very dirty. I went elsewhere for breakfast.
Finally, although the rooms seem to have been renovated, the walls were so thin that you could hear everything going on in the rooms around you. At one point, around midnight, when I was desperately trying to get some sleep, I could hear 4 separate conversations -- two from the rooms above me, one from the room next to mine, and one from the hallway. Things did not settle down and get quiet until well after 1 am.
One last comment, much to my surprise, the bed was extremely comfortable for sleeping and the bed coverings were very conducive to sleeping. But that does not make up for all the problems mentioned above. This facility needs some improvement and it has made me reconsider staying in a Days...
Read moreLocation: It's near every store you can think of so it's easy to go grab stuff/food and come back. Front desk receptionist was a pleasure to talk to but that's pretty much the highlight of the hotel... very nice and respectful people/ staff but the hotel inside could use many touch ups. The fire pit out front was a very nice touch but once you go inside you start noticing things... For starters, the doors are such a pain to open with the key cards not always working or if they do turn green it still won't let you inside your room until the 10th or 11th time (not exaggerating.) Then, the door security lock/ guard had a very loose screw on the top so the actual guard kept falling so didn't feel very safe. The beds were clean but need to update on pillows and bedspreads, the sheets/comforter was super thin and felt like cardboard. Also, it would have been nice if the big headboard wasn't all stained and gross... We got a non smoking room but the curtains smelled like smoke and just dirty in general, they need a good wash or to be replaced would probably be better. The shower was ok but the bathroom sink kept clogging up with cloudy water any time someone wanted to use it. The breakfast was mediocre... the small portions of scrabbled eggs that they served were so runny they looked to be mixed with water and the pancakes came out of that adult version of an easy bake oven so needless to say it didn't taste real lol. Parking is fine and the paint colors are nice but people stay in rooms not in the hallways so they should look as nice, if not even better than the...
Read moreDont, just dont, sleep in your car, it's a better option. This place is so disgusting where do I start. For 80 bucks i knew we were not staying at a luxury hotel however there was an expectation on my end for a no nonsense clean comfortable experience. It started with an odor when we came on the front door, hallways were dirty, cobwebs over the exit door and un clean stairwell.... still, for 80 bucks I could deal, so I thought until we opened the door to our room. The air was extreamly musty, the ac kicked on then the compressor cut out and the furniture felt wet. All we wanted to to was open a window to air out the room. Then, I look more closely at the arm chair and theres flipping mold, mold on both armrests. My son has major mold allergys so we asked for another room. The front desk girl said she could give us another room but the issue would be the same. I said the first room was unacceptable and she gave us the room directly above the first room. The room was also musty though not as bad however it smelled like an old litter box once resided in there. Look up at the vaulted ceilings and you see a huge stain from a roof leak right over both beds. Look to the corner and the huge lampshade from the floor lamp is covered in dust and hanging onto the lamp by a thread. My 3 kids under the age of 9 just wanted to go home... I felt horrible. I cant believe a place like this is open...
