Based on an enthusiastic recommendation, I placed my first orders, both holiday gifts, nothing coming to me. Caramel Cake ($103 total) is receiving a muted response from 2 cake lovers, though they politely said it's "good". In addition, the packaging and dry ice, thawing and re-freezing are a bit cumbersome for older but fairly able-bodied shut-ins. Cheese biscuits which went to another house are said to be very good. However, it was clear with the order that these were both gifts, yet there was no way for my recipients to tell who sent them. Ordering was complicated (3 websites, some with slightly different offerings) and when I emailed Customer Service with 2 specific questions, R.R. replied in about 10 words, with 3 exclamation points, no concrete response, just something like "buy again and enjoy".
I will pass on re-ordering and would also comment that while buying the Route insurance makes sense this proved a nuisance. Added to the many duplicate emails from C.C. (two identical ones each time you messaged, each order) were something like 6 or 7 emails from UPS. One from UPS even said my delivery was expected that same day, when the body of the msg. said the item hadn't yet been shipped. (Turns out, it had not.) Then I was offered a chance to watch GPS live while UPS traveled the final 5 min. to one delivery. Ludicrous. These gifts turned into a fair amount of work for me with minimal positive result. Gifts are supposed to...
Read moreWe got both the 7 layer caramel cake and 7 layer coconut cake. Both cakes were delicious, and we were overall pleased with the cakes. However, there were issues with each cake that in my opinion did not live up to the premium price of the cakes. The icing of the caramel cake was grainy as if the sugar was not completely incorporated into the frosting. The coconut cake had very little frosting to almost none in between the layers of cake. So little frosting to the point where each layer was just layer on top of each other. The frosting around the sides of the cake was thin to the point it looked cheap. Looks like the only thought put to frosting this cake was dedicated to just the top of the cake. In these areas the premium price of the cake did not live up to the expectations of the cost. The cakes were good and everyone enjoyed them, just a little disappointed in the appearance for the cost. At the cost of these cake I would expect a little more value and attention to the cakes for what you are paying for. Sorry about being so blunt to my opinion but I would think you would be more interested in the honest opinion then just, a review of just they were good, and then never by one again. Right now I my try another for an upcoming birthday in a couple of months in hopes that these issues were just a oversight of the timing...
Read moreI purchased of Caroline's Cakes and keep coming back. I highly recommend the 4-layer Chocolate Cloud. I took this to a family get-together last weekend and it was a HIT. It was a party to the palate. Not a crumb left. Everyone loved it.
I sent the 4-layer Red Velvet Delight as a Thanksgiving gift more than 2 years ago and it is still talked about. If you have not had red velvet with buttercream instead of cream cheese frosting, you've missed out.
Several times, I've ordered the 7-layer Caramel Cake - a favorite by the in-laws who now request it for every special occasion. They've "...never had a better cake!"
I believe it was the Lemon Blueberry or Lemon Raspberry Delight ordered once and I would not order it again. A good cake but simply was not as delectable.
Being spoiled by the awesome cakes, I am not a fan of their cake bites. The simply do not offer the same flavor and palate experience. I found them to be disappointing.
I highly recommend Caroline's cakes as special occasion cakes. They are always moist, delicious, and do not disappoint! If they arrive ahead of your occasion, they are so easy to keep fresh. Simply pop into your freezer and take out the morning of your event - it...
