Update: We hadn’t been able to make it in here for several months and recently stopped in for dinner. I was so excited to revisit my favorite restaurant in the area and have a high quality meal - unfortunately, this place has changed and not for the better. The atmosphere is still largely the same, but our server was not very friendly or attentive at all and she had a bit of an attitude as though it was an inconvenience to wait on us. In prior visits to this establishment the waitstaff went above and beyond to make our visit enjoyable - so that in and of itself marred this recent experience. The food was sub-par. I’ve never had a bad meal in this place before in all the times we’ve come here and yet everything we ordered - all prior favorites of ours - tasted like it came from a typical mediocre restaurant in the US and nothing like it used to - definitely not worth the premium prices on the menu. I have no problem paying a premium for an excellent meal, but if everything on the plate tastes like it came straight out of a bag off a Sysco truck then I’d rather stay at home and save myself $150 bucks. I didn’t know this prior to our recent visit, but apparently this place was bought out by another restaurant group in the area and is now under new management. You can tell. Very sad. ——————
One of my favorite places to eat in the area - we visit here frequently and have never had a bad experience here even though they’re usually pretty packed when we go. That alone speaks volumes because service and quality tend to slide when restaurants get busy. The food is amazing, a little on the pricier side, but absolutely worth it. And they have a pretty diverse menu so it’s easy to find something to satisfy whatever mood you happen to be in. Have never had a bad meal here. The atmosphere is cozy and warm, the waitstaff is friendly and attentive and they have a fantastic fireplace on the patio for colder weather days. I would eat here every day if I could afford...

Tonight we went to Gerhard's for my birthday dinner with my family.
My overall experience: AMAZING!!!
We had a party of 11. We had planned to eat on the casual side since we had 2 kids with us. I had called ahead and they told me that they didn't do reservations for the casual side but they would put us first on the list. We arrived at 6:30 pm and a large table had just sat down and was on appetizers. We were happy with waiting. Then a lady walked up to us and asked us how we were doing and we told her that we were great and had a large party with us and can't wait to eat. In no way were we upset or had any kind of tone. We were just making conversation. She then asked us if we wanted to sit in the formal dining area. I explained to her that we didn't make a reservation and that we had kids (1 of which is a baby). She then proceeded to tell us that she's the owner and said we were fine dining in the formal dining area and said that she would get us seated right away.
I ordered the veal with a mushroom sauce and spaetzle. My husband ordered the 12oz ribeye with potatoes. The food was BEYOND amazing. Every one in our party was trying everyone else's food. My 4 year old ate every bite of her spaghetti!! The spicy butter with the bread was to die for!!! Everything was soooo good!!! Our baby was getting a little restless since we were there for 3 hours. The owner walked up to me and brought 2 toys for the baby to play with.
The atmosphere was wonderful and very relaxing. The waitstaff was beyond courteous and accommodating. My family was extremely impressed tonight and they came from Greenville 😉
Needless to say, Gerhard's is now my FAVORITE place to go in spartanburg! We will definitely be back!! I have nothing but good to say about our...
Read moreAwful first experience. Waitress brought me my glass of wine in a dirty glass with a huge lipstick mark on the edge. When I flagged down another waiter (because ours was MIA) he wouldn’t let my husband finish his sentence about the dirty glass. He just snatched it and ran off; he didn’t even tell the owner about it either! Calamari was a big tangled mess, over cooked and rubbery. Our salads sat in the outside seating area for nearly 10 minutes before they were brought to us; bug were flying all over it. We didn’t realize they were ours until we saw our waitress go pick them up and bring them to us. We asked for our bill for the glass of wine, my husbands soda, and the calamari & the waitress left, came back, and hollered from across the room “DONT WORRY ABOUT THE BILL, WE PAID IT” and made a huge scene. However, when we got up to leave, we were stopped by the owner who surprisingly was very professional and apologized profusely to us. We alerted her of the wine glass issue, which she was unaware of, and she quickly excused herself to go around back to the employees. Hopefully she chewed them out, because that was just GROSS! We thoroughly appreciated the owner’s professionalism and kind behavior, though we certainly will NOT be...
