The audacity of this owner is insane. We walk in, the owner is staring out at nothing and doesn't acknowledge us for a solid minute. He suddenly comes back into consciousness and says sit wherever. We sit down, lady (presumably daughter?) comes over and gets us our drinks and takes our food order. (We got a 26$ house pizza and the drinks were in small glasses, this is important later). Since we're waiting there, we finish the drinks pretty fast. My partner goes to the bathroom and I sit there with both the empty cups on the edge of the table to signal that we could use a refill. We wait for another 15-20 minutes and the pizza gets to our table before the initial waiter actually comes back. The owner ends up being the one who refills the drinks, we eat, set cups on the side for refills again, refills never come. The ONLY OTHER TIME the server came to our table was to offer a to-go box and to ask if we were ready to pay. We didn't have an issue with the waiter. Even though she had earbuds in and was on her phone for most of our visit, it really didn't bother us since it's not that big of a deal. We go up front, and somehow a large 26$ pizza with 2 small drinks that only got refilled twice costed us 38$. That was essentially an extra 50% of the price tacked on. Whatever, you have to make money how you can, so we pay. When we're on the way out, the owner slams the receipt on the counter and says "here is where you add the tip." My partner adds "0" because there literally WAS NO SERVICE, they brought us the food and refilled our drinks once per person. We didn't get service, so we don't pay gratuity for service, sounds fair right? WRONG. He yells at us, saying "You can take your business elsewhere from here on out" and "You don't work for free, do you? So why aren't you paying her (the server)."
Brother, are you delusional, or just not fully there? A TIP IS FOR SERVICE. WE PAID FOR THE FOOD WE GOT, WE DID NOT ADD A TIP BECAUSE YOU DID NOTHING BUT BRING THE FOOD WE PAID FOR AND REFILLED OUR DRINKS ONCE. If your worker isn't getting paid enough, how about you pay her a livable wage? I dont need someone to be a shill and be nice to me, i just want fair treatment. Insanity from this guy, i didn't know Neanderthals could own businesses.
Regardless though, food was amazing and the server was atleast nice. I'd recommend going when the Boston woman (presumably the wife/manager) is there. She's infinitely nicer and doesn't yell at you for not leaving a tip for the service...
Read moreAs a lover of ANYTHING and EVERYTHING pasta/Italian related, I just HAD to try this place. This tiny quiet little restaurant tucked in a small little corner. Most people would drive past. Looking for the shiny lights and blinking signs. But not me. These small family run businesses are what I look for. Often more times than none, it's the hidden gem. Yes. Before entering, I did my research. "Best baked spaghetti in Spartanburg!" Well that was all I needed to see. I walk in. Smells great. Super clean. We are greeted immediately. I didn't feel rushed at all. I felt at home. The waitress even giving her opinion of great menu items to try. Appreciated! The prices were fair for what you get. More than enough! But this is where the stars come off.... Sadly. I order a appetizer of jalapeno poppers. With it, pieces of lettuce strought abouty plate. No rhyme or reason! Decoration gone horribly wrong or the remnants of a salad leftovers. I'm not sure. Although, the poppers were hot and very good! Now the piece o resistance! The baked spaghetti. A baked spaghetti can be PERFECT, but without a great sauce, it all falls apart. That's what we have here. If you've ever had canned sauce, you know what I mean by it taste of can. Get this sauce together and we have a winner. So would I come back,? Yes. Would I get the baked spaghetti again? No. There's room for improvement but overall, great job Boston Pizzeria...
Read moreGood food, great service and management. Boston Pizzeria is more of a small Italian restaurant than exclusively a pizza parlor. Their menu has dishes typical of most authentic Italian joints: pizza (of course), pasta dishes, calzones, gyros, and a few other options. I went with a fairly large group of coworkers and the service was impressive. The little Italian lady had a thick accent, but she was very good about checking on us frequently and making sure everyone was taken care of. As far as I'm aware, all 15 or so orders came out exactly as they were supposed to, sans a few orders of fries that the waitress quickly brought out. My order the Greek calzone, which was large and completely packed with gyro meat, olives, and tomatoes. The quality was good, definitely one of the better calzones I've had in Spartanburg. As for pricing, I got my calzone and a coworker's gyro platter and drink for about $25. Perhaps a little more steep than I expected, but not bad for the amount of food. The owner was working the cash register, as indicated to me by another coworker. He was very polite, and greeted every customer with a warmth not often seen in restaurants. Overall, a very pleasant experience. With far more than just pizza, this place seems like very...
