I'm so happy I stumbled across a restaurant called Kenny's Home Cookin. I was actually next door, at a place called Wade's where I was picking up a quart of the best slow cooked collard greens, with the most delicious "pot liquor" ever. I had some at Thanksgiving and I've been craving more ever since. As I'm leaving, I see Kenny's and being the ever-investigating restaurant sleuth, I had to check it out. It was raining cats and dogs, hard rain, and as luck would have it, a parking spot opened up right by the front door – a sign to me. They have the most extensive southern buffet. It’s $9.99 all-you-can-eat serviced by the nicest southern waitresses. There was me, a bunch of hungry workmen wearing reflective vests or clothes covered in paint and a mostly regular clientele of geezers with walkers or canes. The waitresses and hostess knew many of them by name. Had some of the best fried chicken, fried okra, mashed taters/gravy, ham, all the fixins, a fantastic salad bar and an additional salad bar with prepared salads, potato salad, cole slaw, carrot salad with raisins, mac salad, on and on. The hot food is rotated out for fresh often, the service staff couldn't be any sweeter. Of course, they had several desserts including the ubiquitous banana pudding, a must have in the south. I ate so much I felt sick the rest of the day. I skipped dinner and I'm still full. Comfort food at it finest, I highly recommend Kenny's...
Read moreWent in at 7pm. Tuesday August 30, 3022. Limited selections on buffet. Asked if it was going to be refilled and was told no. Fried foods would not be refilled either, per our waitress. There was not much to choose from. People kept coming in to eat and were told at the register that they had better hurry because they were already cleaning and fixing to close. No one, including us, were told about the limited food on the buffet until after we all paid and were all seated and brought our drink orders. We didnt pay that large amount to have limited food selections and to be told the kitchen was not going to refill the meats and vegetables that were missing. The food was too salty and way overcooked. Dry chicken and pork chops that had been sitting a long time. Terrible tasting beef liver and gravy. Dry crunchy rice. Pasty instant potatoes. Very dry macaroni and cheese made with water. All selections had clearly been there for hours and was not going to be changed until it was all eat. Yuck!! Was told by our waitress that all of the recipes were the owners. Wow, they need to learn to cook and change recipes. We quit going for several years for these same reasons. We only went tonight because the line at Wade's was outside and well into the parking lot. We will not be back...
Read moreI have worked at Kenny's for months now & I have to say that I am disappointed with some of the reviews. Just like every restaurant, there is room for improvement. However, this race card people are trying to use as a crutch is ridiculous. There are Mexican, black, Asian & white people working together in the same establishment. We treat every customer with the same level of respect. Since I have been employed at Kenny's, there have been a few waitresses that worry more about socializing than the customers but, you can't judge every waitress based off the actions of others. When the cooks & waitresses are closing for the night, we get to eat & I've never gotten sick to my stomach or had diarrhea. At times, yes we are understaffed bc people call out but the waitresses that are there do everything they can the best they can with the given circumstances. I wish I could rate the customers that come into my work place bc some of them would be a lot worse than the reviews for the restaurant. none the less, over all it's an awesome place to work & eat. Don't like it, go...
