Very disappointed in our experience here. Thought we’d check it out and pop in for a drink and maybe an appetizer. We sat at the bar…which is huge and is 2 sided. There were only 3-4 people total at the bar and the restaurant was not busy. It took quite some time to be acknowledged. My SO ordered a beer and I took the recommendation of the bartender to try the Mojito with the coconut rum. My partner got his beer, but it took quite some time for me to get my beverage. Even before my beverage came, my partner ordered a bowl of chili. My drink came and I did not care for it at all, but no one came back to check on us. It was easily 25 minutes before a bowl of chili came out. I had already asked the host to speak with the manager. Waited on him for a while also and by the time he came up, the bartender set the bowl of chili down and at that time, I told her I didn’t care for my drink. She did offer me something else, but by then, we didn’t really have the time to wait, so I politely declined. The manager finally came over and was not hospitable at all and with a blank face and tone said “what’s going on?” I was just looking to offer some feedback, which he did not receive well at all and didn’t seem to care. Then said, “is there something you’d like me to do about it?” And I replied, “well, I guess that would be up to you now, wouldn’t it?” He didn’t say a word and just be grudgingly turned and walked away. Not customer service oriented or resolution based at all, and definitely not what one would expect in the hospitality industry. We were like wow! A little bit later, the manager came back over and said I took the chili and the Mojito off the bill. I said well I didn’t drink the Mojito and said I didn’t care for it anyway why would I pay for a drink that I didn’t care for or drink? And he gave us some crazy excuse that we didn’t even understand and attitude and we were just like thanks and just wanted to get out of there. We got in the car and my SO said, “ Definitely not the experience or evening we thought we were gonna have!” I’d give it zero stars for the experience but also want to give the benefit of the doubt that maybe people were having bad days and the atmosphere is kind of cool. No one can fix anything that they don’t know about so that’s why I like to offer feedback. It wasn’t received well at all last night, but hopefully someone higher up will see this and can help others improve their...
Read moreBig Woods delivers on every aspect of a fun, relaxed casual dining experience. Located on Main Street in Speedway, you instantly benefit from the lovely revitalized environment years in the making. Parking is reasonably easy (for 99% of diners...more on that later). The building is fairly new, and extremely well kept, especially considering the volume that it is capable of. A warm sincerely smiley greeting was given within 2 seconds of opening the door. We were seated right away at a lovely outdoor table on the GIGANTIC covered wrap around porch. We were greeted by Jake, who took perfect care of us from beginning to end. He was supremely attentive to our order, and didn't mind my mom and I chatting him up the whole time...awesome guy (oh, also on a previous visit, Tony took amazing care of us as well. Ask for Tony the Tiger!!! He's GRRRRRREAT!!!). Our beers from Quaff On were perfect, and their bloody Mary mix is worth buying a bottle to take home. We both smashed our Candied bacon bomb burgers with delight. Seared crisp, juicy and cooked to perfect medium, a truly proper thick burger. The prices are absolutely fair for such a lovely experience. We will certainly be back. A lot.
I have one issue, but it doesn't matter to most people, and I love this place, but someone needs to hear it
Handicapped parking: not so comically, for reasons, my mom and I are both struggling with mobility issues. The Handicapped parking here is delightfully located at the back of the building 15 feet from a short ramp to an easily accessible door. Unfortunately this perfect door is locked (employee only). This forces the folks on canes, crutches, wheelchairs to walk maybe 200 feet all the way around the building. I can't imagine that this is the way it was intended. There should be a better solution so that those in pain aren't broken from the walk into the...
Read moreI've had food here before and it was ok. The burgers I had were edible enough and the price reflects that. The reason for this review is not for the food, but how my friends and I were treated when we walked in.
On Memorial Day around noon, we rode our bikes on the B&O trail from downtown Indy to Speedway and just wanted a quick bite to eat and some beer. We walked in and experienced a weird interaction with another potential customer and the staff. They told the person in front of us that there's a 40 minute wait and before the person said anything the staff quickly said "Have a nice day". It was off putting but my group just wanted a quick beer since we were already there. They weren't full but possibly understaffed which I understand.
When it was my group's time to talk with the staff, we asked for outdoor seating. The three staff members standing around the check in area said there's a 40 minute wait for a table. My group decided to just grab a beer before leaving to go elsewhere. The guy staff member decided to then rapid fired a bunch of excuses to deter us from staying. Excuses like "Even if you get a beer, we can't offer you table service" that was understandable. When we said that we wanted a single beer and then we'll be gone, we were then accused with having alcohol in our backpacks. He threatened to kick us out if we had any outside drinks. Which we didn't or we would have just had a drink anywhere else.
Overall, he didn't want anyone else to dine there at the time and was quite hostile towards us for no reason. I won't be going back. The staff should learn to say that they're short staffed and won't be able to accommodate anyone else at the time. To push the decision or blame on the customer is such an immature way to handle the situation. Everyone has rough days, but don't make it someone else's...
