I regret to express my disappointment, normally I love coming to Denny's for the cinnamon roll pancakes but today the mark was missed on my meal. Now I don't wanna say my server was bad on purpose or anything cause I'm hoping that was not the case, I've been a server before and sometimes nerves get the best of us- no judgement there I hope that server learns how to shake it off and get better cause I get it shit happens sometimes; for the potential oversight of the folks involved in my dinning experience tonight I wanna leave this so you can do better- Because there were many little things that were disappointing and I just want everyone to enjoy their experience. First off, I had read online Denny's was doing a promotional pumpkin pecan pancakes- tis the reason for the season, I was so excited for these pancakes, and I asked the server if they were available and they were very abrupt in telling me no they didn't have this item. Which is okay I have my back up ready to go, I ordered the seasonal turkey sandwich with the stuffing and cranberry sauce side of fried and gravy, and the cinnamon roll pancakes- cause that sounds delicious, my partner order a super slam with buttermilk pancakes, (his meal was fine, he has no complaints and the pancakes did exceed expectations for the record.) Now as our server left our table I heard them complaining about a menu item with a coworker and I felt a twinge of embarrassment but I assumed they couldn't be talking about a sitting customer, brushed it off, and waited patiently for our food to arrive. Now this is were the issues truly set in, when my meal came out my sandwich had no gravy which I thought was a mistake so I asked did my sandwich come with a side of gravy to which my server said no and bolted. And I couldn't ignore the abruptness in demeanor, it was uncomfortable and alienating, because I would have happily paid extra for the side of gravy because that is an important component of this dish. Similarly I would have selected a different menu item if I'd been informed of the lack of gravy with this item when I had placed my order, because maybe there was no gravy which would have been okay, it happens but I would have liked to be informed of the none existent gravy. Alas no gravy -so I tuck in, trying to enjoy and not have my experience marred by disappointment and awkwardness. Well I was disappointed- the fries were not salted in any way which was off putting, my sandwich was not spread evenly which made it incredibly uncomfortable to eat. My dry lumpy bland meal could have been remedied in several ways. A) fresh water- our server did not come back so I was struggling through a dry lumpy sandwich. B) Gravy would have saved this dish- including it or allowed to buy it separately would have been great. C) an attentive server- if our server had come back I could have asked for something else or found joy in this meal but they did not come back until they brought the check. So I called it a wash, ate through my dry and uncomfortably lumpy sandwich and my heartless bland fries and told myself okay so maybe the sandwich just wasn't it luckily I still have my pancakes right? Well no, for some reason my cinnamon roll pancakes were just off from the first bite, I'm not sure if the frosting was a different recipe and it threw me or if it was the texture but these pancakes were incredibly disappointing. I tried my partner's pancakes and they were perfect so I have no idea what the issue was with my pancakes but they were not good. So to sum up my meal wasn't good and I believe Denny's, you can do better, all the issues with my experience could have easily been prevented, or remedied. Please do better...
Read moreYou know its amazing to me how people in the service industry can treat guest. The funny thing is they expect you to reward them for very poor service and the weird thing is they get highly pissed if you don't. I open with that statement bc of a young woman that is a hostess and a server. I really was not greeted properly, was ask what do you want, what would have been your thought? Then this amazing young gentlemen came to my booth. The friendly welcoming smile and great attitude I might add has begun to change the way I was going to rate this Dennys. Which would have made the review much worse. This review is being done in more depth due to several people asking me to find out what is happening here. The tea here is excellent great flavor(SOUTHERN GUYS ITS UNSWEET.) For you lemon lovers tonight's lemons are very dry and does not have a very good taste. Ill let you know about the meal when it comes. The restaurant entrance is clean. To my amazement the restroom was very clean and stocked for as busy as they seem. Special note: this Dennys is extremely small. Wow you know I just have received information about my server Carl is a Georgia native. I will give a shout out to all of those in Gainsville Ga. Food is up. I ordered the grand slam. The pan cakes are not hot, the bacon and sausage were cold the hash browns were massively over cooked. Lets talk atmosphere this is a early Sunday morning visit and wave 2 of their bar crowd. This is a younger Dennys crowd extremely loud but lots of fun. To answer some of the questions that were ask of to find out. 1. From where I sit the Dennys is not really big enough for an extra server. Why do I say this bc none of the servers would make money. Well I forgot to tell you about the eggs very well prepared and they were hot. This last question that was sent to me from Gail and Linda, yes I think that you might consider the time of day u were here. If I were you both I think that i would either come a little later or I would wait until the bar crowd was gone. To my followers, I have changed my format of how I rate and review. I've decided not to allow one area or the other to decide my thought of whether I should recommend or not. This Dennys just like all others have their good qualities and their bad qualities. It now will be decided souly on the servers attitude mgmt attitude and the time of food and presentation and quality of that food and greeting and are all in uniform. I must give high praise to one of the most prestiage managers I've personally ever encountered his name is Jordan. This gentlemen has taken this night to new heights bc he's been the servers back the buses backup and has stepped to the plate. I hope that this review will not only help Carl out because he's fabulous. I hope that it will increase their business flow and will allow promotions for all. Read moreI hate to complain --- I do a negative post maybe twice a decade. But this is my second in a month or two now, and the other one was sadly at Denny's, too (Moscow, ID).
I've been to this Dennys dozens of times, when in town. So I had to get some work done in the middle of the night on a visit. They said they were open 24 hours. But then I arrived a bit before 3am. They said (politely) that they were only open for takeout orders from 3am for an hour or maybe two. They have a cleaning crew that comes in at 3am so they don't seat anyone. They should have this clearly labeled in their hours; both google maps and Denny's home page list it as open 24 hours!! $#@%!##!!
OK, so I think, let me look to see what other restaurant is open at 3am. Google Maps shows one called Burger Den open 24 hours. Yay! They are very close to this Denny's. In fact, digging for a few seconds shows that they ARE this Denny's. This is very deceptive and utterly shameless.
It is clear that this Denny's franchise has SERIOUS management problems. I won't be coming here again, and advise this to everyone. (BTW, I know nobody at this business, and have no grudge against this place or its owners etc, for the record.)
So I went out to the one on Argonne, and they were very nice. Alicia in particular was very sweet and helped me set up my laptop, she even brought in an extension cord without being asked, because my cord was not long enough for the only place I could plug in (Christmas decorations took up a lot of plugs at one obvious location by a window.)
And the Moscow Denny's is usually quite good. Athena and Hannah in particular are always very nice and helpful.
And, to complete the circle, I"ve long liked Denny's. Not great, but adequate food and you know what to expect. They used to have one in my hometown of Pullman, but it closed 10-15 years ago....
