MJ's Restaurant Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Spotswood

Used to go here a lot but I remember why I don’t anymore. Every time I go there I have a problem with one of the bartenders (the old guy sorry don’t know his name). He’s rude, nasty and talk behind your back. Let’s give a little background first went there over the weekend Saturday to be exact. After being there for about 15 mins we finally get a spot at the bar. We sit down (it was me my fiancé and a friend of ours) order 2 shots of Jamison that we wanted my friend to pay for and start up a tab but I was also trying to order so I had my card out as well to start a tab got confused as to who’s card it was going on after telling him multiple times it was going on his card and pointing at my friend. Still didn’t understand that got nasty and said, “are you guys playing games cuz I’m not in the mood for games” we said no you just didn’t understand us. After all of that I ordered a beer, my friend ordered a captain and coke and the bartender ignored my fiancé. At this point me and my fiancé observed him talking to another bartender about us. We called over the female bartender over and asked her to serve us and not have him come back and serve us to not create problems and also that whatever he said to you was completely unprofessional. Other then that whole fiasco we had a good time and the food is always good and fast. And has a great atmosphere. As long as he’s a bartender there when I go in I will be walking...

Unfortunately this location has been a disappointment the last several times I have been there. If you are seated at the bar, you get amazing service. The bartenders are quick to get refills and ordering your food. If you are seated in the dining area, which has been my experience as of late, it takes an extremely long time to order or get anything.

The most recent time, 3/9/2024, we(party of 2) sat down at 6 and ordered an app of mozzarella sticks, then a chicken sandwich, boneless wings and a salad for our meals. The app came out after we'd been sitting for 30 minutes. Our meals did not arrive until after 7. A table of 4 that sat after us had already received their meals while we were still waiting for ours. The boneless wings were overcooked because it took some effort to cut them up. My sandwich was a bit overcooked at well. The highlight of the meal were the mozzarella sticks, French fries, and chipotle mayo. We waited to get and then pay the bill. A meal that should have lasted maybe an hour or so lasted an hour and 45 minutes.

Overall there seems to be a lack of urgency by the front of the house, and back of the house. I don't expect to be checked on every 5 minutes, but it feels like the waitstaff disappears for an extended period unable to be found. I used to enjoy coming for bingo and trivia, but the lack of service has really pushed us to go to the other MJ's and...

Service is good and very friendly, the Wednesday wing deal is a scam though, every single table in the building has a sign 50 cent wings, but what they don't tell you is that is only in the bar area. The managers should be ashamed of this bate and switch tactic. I can say this is the last visit I will make to here. I don't appreciate being lied to, even by the manager on duty.

Reply: to owner, after 2 months a reply, OK. So all are aware yes it is marked, but lets not pretend it is clearly stated either. This marking is in super fine print on the bottom of the advertisement, in white lettering nearly in the black boarder of the advertisement which can be found on every single table in the dining area, which is in a dimly lit room, no one would be able to read. As well when ordered no one makes certain that the customer is aware the items are not as advertised. So yeah, I am standing by the false advertising/bait and switch tactic as described. Sorry you see it otherwise.

Hey actually when I handed my card to you didn't you see the fine print that says you owe me 500$ for if you reply to this comment? Don't worry it's on the flier too....

In addition I had asked to speak with the owner, who was "blamed" for the promotion and idea, I was told I could call the ops manager. I haven't bothered, to be honest, it's easier to simply not bother helping a dishonest...
