This new experience was terrifying, we met friends who were eating at this place and we decided to sit at their table, serious mistake, after 10 minutes of waiting to be served, I asked one of the waitresses for the menu, she answered me. in a derogatory way right now I bring it to you, this is not my table, when they finally bring it we ask for an appetizer, after a long time it arrives cold, when requesting spicy the waitress says there they already have one grab that one, the waitress takes our order after a long time our food arrives, the waitress distributes our friends' desserts and literally disappears, trying to get her attention we call another waitress, ask us for the ticket to pay the bill, she just turns around, when the waitress returns, she arrives with the ticket saying in a mocking manner, to whom do I give it, who is going to pay? We tell her that they were separate accounts, she gets upset and says that happens when they request the account from another person, no way! Since we wanted to leave this place we decided to pay the person to whom we had given the ticket, oh big surprise, the ticket had a tip of 18%. A little annoyed, we paid the bill and the waitress muttered that it was going well for them and here it wasn't even Come back, I think that if you don't have the patience to serve the public, you should choose another job and...
Read moreWe were there last p.m. 6 Aug 2016. The food is standard Colombian food, done exactly the same as in Colombian. The food was good, the service was off for this restaurant. Maybe that had someone call in sick, because the service is typically stellar, as is the food. I don't state this lightly, I lived in Colombia for 3 years, I know what things should taste like and La Olla gets it right.
I dealt primarily with Antioquian fare, and so I always order the the Bandeja Paisa. A coffee table book describes the origins of the Bandeja Paisa this way - travelers were late arriving at their destination and the inn was closed. They knocked on the kitchen door and asked for whatever was available / left over. They were rewarded with a plate of small portions of many things. The Bandeja Paisa of La Olla includes an a chicharron, fried slab bacon, beans, rice, a portion of ripe plantains, a Colombian sausage(chorizo) a small steak, a fried egg, and a slice of avocado. The food is authentic and is a comfort food for me. I have seen other reviews from people who didn't know what they were getting into. If you are a food adventurer, this place is for you. If you have been to Colombia, or are Colombian and you feel homesick, La Olla is for you.
La Olla is a job well done, un esfuerzo muy bien...
Read moreOver priced. The ladies serving the tables try their best, they have the spirit, but it is obvious they do not have the experience. Over the last 6 months, the quality of some of the items in the menu has been declining: e.g. there was a time when the empanadas actually had beef or chicken in them mixed with a little potato inside … nowadays, if you ask for beef empanadas or chicken empanadas, it makes no difference it is all potato inside. Another example: mango juice … those of us who were born and raised in LatinoAmerica, know that mango juice is supposed to be thick, in La Olla I suspect they use 1 mango per gallon of water … you can barely feel the mango flavor.
The entrées are pricy … the value for the money is just not there.
Jan-27-2023 update Came back after a while. There is no “wait to be seated at the entrance. Party of 4 but we looked for a table with a few extra chairs bcs otherwise we would have been cramped with a few things we were carrying. Upon finding the table and seating we were rudely told to move to a 4-chair table … no please, nothing else just a “this other table is for 4 people”. Funny thing is that half of the place was empty … I don’t think we were taking someone else’s “reserved table”. I doubt we will...
