To sum this place up in a word, OMG!!
We had a late lunch (2pm) sitting in their marvelously cozy dining room at a quiet table for two. Meghan immediately welcomed us, with an invitation to sit where we pleased. We were promptly provided menus, drink order taken and served along with bread service within minutes.
The bread was excellent, with butter, a plate of fresh garlic, olive oil, malt vinegar and parmesan cheese provided.
As an appetizer, we chose the Spinach Artichoke dip with garlic bread. If you choose it too, be prepared for a generous bowl of creamy yumminess! Large pieces of artichoke and chopped spinach swimming in a hot creamy garlic cream sauce! With ample amounts of garlic bread for dipping.
We probably could have left then but we'd come to eat pasta! And pasta it was going to be!
We ordered The Bambino and The Ziti with the gluten free option. They both arrived in a nice timely fashion. Enough time for us to enjoy our appetizer but no too long to the point we were finished staring at empty plates.
Both entrees were absolutely delicious featuring generous portions of yummy pastas, tender meats, deep flavorful sauces and copious amounts of hot melty cheese as both dishes were prepared by baking. And as a side note, the gluten free pasta was excellent and an great value for only a 75¢ surcharge.
All of this outstanding fare was served to us by Meghan. She was very friendly and personable. From welcoming us upon entering to making sure our drinks were full to promptly bringing the check when our meal was sadly over. You'd be very fortunate to have her as your server.
So to sum it all up, Bambinos is an amazing little Italian restaurant tucked away in a midtown neighborhood. It's truly one of Springfield's...
Read moreI ordered the mushroom stuffed ravioli in Marsala sauce and it was really good. My husband had the Gorgonzola pasta dish and it was good too, but a bit under salted. The bread was good. The artichoke dip was just okay - more like queso with a few leaves of spinach and a few artichokes mixed in.
The vibe is casual / bistro / family friendly, and they don’t serve wine. It’s really cute and cozy, both inside and on their adorable patio. I see it as more like a great place to meet a friend or enjoy a beautiful summer evening rather than a place for a fancy date.
The biggest negative was when I called and asked what their approximate wait time was to get an idea of what to expect, the girl who answered the phone was extremely rude. Told me she couldn’t say and then immediately hung up on me before I had a chance to respond. I called right back, and she answered with an annoyed tone because she knew it was me, and I rephrased my question to say, “If I were to walk in right this minute, how long would I have to wait for a table for two people?” She said (and I could hear the eye roll in her voice), “If you were to walk in RIGHT NOW, we would have a table for you.” Then “click”, hung up on me again. That was all I wanted—just a general idea since I live in the neighborhood and can drive there in less than 5 min! Or to know if they currently had a line and a super long wait time so that we could pick someplace else! I was so annoyed with her we almost didn’t go. Maybe the staff is trained to answer the phone like this? I have never experienced that when calling any other restaurant though and can’t understand why a business would want to give their customers such a terrible first impression when a friendly answer would work...
Read moreWhat an amazing and delicious neighborhood Italian joint. My wife and I just finished a dinner at this tiny place in a residential area near MSU. It’s very much a warm and welcoming little dining area with a few small rooms and cozy bar. The server brings out warm, soft bread and fresh garlic to all of the tables to then be combined with the bottles of Olive Oil, Balsamic Vinegar, and grated Parmesan. The menu itself isn’t huge and that’s a good thing. There are several pizza options to choose from in addition to the main focal point, which are the pasta dishes at Bambino’s. We both had a couple of their house salads, which were crisp, and fresh. My wife had “The Ziti”, which comes with, yep baked ziti, TENDER chunks of roast beef braised in red wine and tomato sauce, cream and then bake smothered in mozzarella cheese. It was excellent, very savory and rich yet, surprisingly not too heavy. I had “The Poppa”, Penne, Italian sausage, and mushrooms cooked in a spicy tomato cream sauce. It was also very good. All of the flavors and textures were spot on with the dishes we had. We also shared an order of Tiramisu for dessert which was also quite good, you could at least tell they made it and it wasn’t a frozen version that they just thawed out. Overall Bambino’s is most likely going to be my “go to” place in Springfield for a decent bowl of pasta and with their very reasonable prices you can go back...
