Being born and raised in the southwest I have had way more than my fair share of mexican food. Mexican Villa's food tastes good however it does miss the mark a little bit... when I sat down they served warm tortilla chips but NO salsa... I am not sure if someone just doesn't know BUT customarily chips and salsa are placed on the table soon after the customer is seated at the table followed closely by someone taking the drink order... i ordered an ice tea that was delicious and brewed perfectly. For dinner I had the beef burrito enchalada style. This burrito is made with ground beef as apposed to a seasoned shredded beef but still tasted good regardless. I did not care for the level of sauce applied to the burrito. My dinner was literally swimming in enchalada sauce leaving me feel like I was eating a soup or a chile instead of a burrito. My waitress was Araya according to my receipt. She was pleasant to speak to and was both accurate and speedy when taking my order and refilling my drink. Not once was my glass empty and that was due to her great waitress skills and her attention to detail. After my dinner was complete she made sure that my dirty dishes were whisked away promptly and my check was placed on the table very professionally. This is not a bad review but rather me comparing this restaurant to some of the country's BEST mexican food restaurants found all around the southwest United States. This restaurant would hold its own among others in my opinion. I would love to see a shredded beef option added to the menu and a salsa made from scratch to enjoy the chips with. I definately suggest this restaurant to anyone curious about mexican food. I will certainly...
Read moreHave you ever known someone who is in a bad relationship, but for whatever reason they just keep going back to their terrible partner? That's how I feel when someone tells me they are getting Mexican Villa for dinner. I feel like I live in an alternate reality where Gigli won an Oscar and Al Gore was President. That Mexican Villa is some sort of paradox that exist that asks, "How can something be so bad yet so widely loved?'
My experiences with the food at Mexican Villa can best be described as blisteringly disappointing. My second experience at Mexican Villa turned into stupid rage. Like a war crime, this restaurant should not be allowed to exist in a decent society and yet still persist. My third and final experience just turned into a maddening depression. This last experience was because it was so packed and everyone was just chowing down on the food.
If you have ever only had Taco Bell in your life and this was your second introduction to Mexican Food you will still think Taco Bell was the best place you ate. I have only ever seen anyone who has grown up in Springfield ever enjoy Mexican Villa. Anyone else who has moved here or just visited has always hated this place.
At some point I am starting to think Mexican Villa is just some cruel prank Springfield plays on the world. Like, yeah, we know its not good food, but wait until everyone else tries it. We will all get a laugh out of it.
That's all I can think because nothing can excuse what is flatly not Mexican food, not good food, and a literal abomination to the tongue when you take one bite.
That being said the staff is really friendly...
Read moreDear Lord, I can't even tell you how much I love this place!!!! My husband and I ate here all the time in college and it has become our all time favorite place to eat in Springfield. We never get tired of it......ever! Never, ever, have we had a bad experience nor have we ever been disappointed with our food, it's hot and perfect every time. Service is always good, the food comes out quickly and it's just an enjoyable experience. We love the atmosphere, they did a little remodeling in the back section a few years ago, it's just comfy and inviting. I still look around the room at all the decorations and old photos as if I was there for the first time lol. Mexican Villa feels homey to me, and I always leave satisfied! The tacos are a favorite with my husband and kiddos, I always get the sancho enchilada style and the YELLOW queso is a must (it's the original). They have a hot salsa, which I love, then they have a mild, which is a nice chunky salsa, then there's the sweet, which is a smooth salsa. They're great individually or mix them to create the perfect combo, either way, they're all winners! And, it's available to purchase so you can take that goodness home with you! There are multiple Mexican Villa locations, our favorite spot is the "campus" location, or National location. We've been to each of them over the years and they're all great, but campus has just always been our "home base" so to speak. If you're local, you already know what I'm talking about, if you're visiting Springfield or just passing through, STOP HERE!!! Trust me,...
