Is there such a thing as culinary perfection? Is there such a thing as an idea so brilliant that it may just be the best idea ever? Have your life views ever been unerringly altered from their previous path just because you had a bite of all that is right? I have found a food combination so perfect and beautiful that my life is forever changed.
After having come to Springfield, I now know about its popular and tasty local fare of horseshoes/pony shoes. We also know that pizza is a popular favorite in all of its many variations throughout the nation…now, what if these were combined? I’ll tell you what – amazingness, that’s what. The Corner Pub & Grill offers, get this…[insert drum roll here]…a horseshoe pizza. Folks, I had a buffalo chicken horseshoe pizza and I just may not be the same. I mean, fries on a pizza…I’m near speechless. (This near rivals that time I put steak strips on my 2lb burger). I took a bite of this exquisite creation and I think I heard a heavenly chorus. Falling stars, unicorns, magical pixies, laughing babies, and dancing gnomes, you name it – all things joyous and wonderful happened when I took that first bite. (Please excuse whatever bias I may hold, as pizza is my favorite food).
The Corner Pub itself is your standard bar and grill, complete with sports on multiple TVs throughout. The rest of their menu consists of your pub staples; standard appetizers, salads, BYO (build your own) burgers, sandwiches, and more along with, what looks like, an extensive adult beverage menu. Since I do not partake, I’m not the best judge in that arena, but it’s there. Their onion rings were spot on tasty and they have the ability to add flavors to your drinks, so I was able to enjoy my Diet Dr. Pepper with cherry :) The service was fast and friendly and even offered me my drink to go, so I was able to enjoy my Diet Dr. Pepper w/cherry on the road.
Try it out folks, you...
Read moreWhat we ordered: Sampler platter Buffalo Mac and Cheese Flatbread Horseshoe To-go salad
Waitress chose not to write anything down and as a result the sampler platter was the only item not messed up. Buffalo Mac and cheese had the grilled chicken, not the fried I requested. The flatbread had also no sauce when extra sauce was requested and was way over cooked. The horseshoe was completely deconstructed because we had ordered the fries to be separate and the waitress admitted she couldn’t remember what we wanted separated. The cheese sauce was more like a pudding and impossible to pour. After we received our food, the waitress brought us ketchup and was never to be seen again. We wanted extra sauce for the flatbread and 2/3 of us had empty cups of water. Waitress never even walked by. Finally we had to ask another waitress and magically our waitress appeared again. She would stop by long enough to grab a plate or throw the ticket on the table. After we received our receipt, she finally remembered our to-go salad but forgot which one we ordered. At that point, we just wanted to pay and leave. We were sat near the hostess table and we watched as they clearly gossiped and rolled their eyes at us while not offering any help when our waitress was doing nothing. Our meal (without the salad) was a little over $50 for some mediocre food and terrible service....
Read moreTerrible server. Terrible kitchen quality issues. The server brought me the wrong salad and then she doubled down on it insisting it was panko chicken when in fact it was the Caesar salad grilled chicken. I asked her for all the vegetables on my salad and she came back with just romaine lettuce. And then I asked her if I could get a side of vegetables and then when she came back she said that's all we had with a couple teaspoons of vegetables chopped up and thrown on a side plate like it was some big deal. And she said that there would be an extra charge for the vegetables like it would be a big deal like she was expecting me to turn her down but price was not the problem .In addition, clearly the dishes weren't rinsed properly the croutons tasted like Dawn dish detergent and also some of the lettuce. Quality control in the kitchen obviously is a real issue. The server really didn't know the difference between the dishes, The difference between grilled chicken and panko fried, and the taste of soap in the food is clearly an issue I would not eat there until they fix their kitchen problems and...
