This is one of the oldest and original donut shops of Mel-O-Cream, that I remember from my memory in Springfield, Illinois when I was little in 1964 - 1966. Those times were special to me, because we lived with my Grandmother on 13th street. I remember my Uncle Bobby, He would bring her a beautiful, Yellow Box of Mel-O-Cream Donuts every Sunday, and my Uncle Norman (who lived with us), if my Uncle Bobby couldn't visit, he would go out and get a box of Mel-O-Creams, or a box of Gold-n-Glow at Sonrise Bakery, if he was in a hurry. Usually, it was always Mel-O-Creams, and the delicious tasting delights inside were so scrumptious. I looked forward to those Sunday Dreams of Mel-O-Creams. Gold-n-Glow were good, but, Mel-O-Cream Donuts were out of this world. So, when I go to a happy place in my mind, it is at my grandmother's house, where there was always a box of delicious, Mel-O-Creams, sitting in a box just waiting to be eaten by my quick hands. Thank you Mel-O-Cream for all...

I loved the building with its unique architecture. The roof with its cool curves is quite amazing how it was made. As a bit of a doughnut connoisseur (and the belly to prove it) I must admit I find these slightly overrated and overpriced. The OG glazed were a little stale for 9 am and not nearly as tender as I like a yeast doughnut to be (but they were a good size). The chocolate long-John’s were good and had a nice thick icing. I will say the service was fine but when I asked the person behind the counter to give us an assortment he picked the most boring options possible (kind of our bad but you could tell they were picking based on what they had the most of, we didn’t get any of the fancy fruit filled or cookie topped). Def pass on the doughnut holes. They were very oily and not...

Love this place! When I come back in town this is my favorite spot to bring friends and family. The donuts are literally better than anywhere I’ve ever had, and I eat donuts all over— Boston, San Francisco, Chicago, Seattle, you name it! Mel-O-Creme has the BEST donuts in the world. And their history is great, they make the donut formula for lots of other well known donut makers. I’m usually a very healthy and organic eater, but these donuts are WORTH THE SPLURGE. Not a single donut is bad, sometimes I get there towards closing and they only have a few selections left, but that doesn’t even bother me. Whatever donut type is left is guaranteed to be excellent. But if you’re looking for the whole variety, get there earlier in the morning because their donuts can go fast because...

I don’t remember anything specific about having these doughnuts. They weren’t bad & they weren’t great. They were just doughnuts. I might have gone after the morning rush because there wasn’t much of a selection to choose from. I think I had a long John and I felt no way about it. Would I go again, no. Would eat them if someone else brought them, yes. Though there wasn’t much to choose from the lady at behind the counter was nice. We had a bit of small talk while I ordered. Getting to the location was a little weird. I think I had to turn on a back street or something. Like I said, not complaints, no compliments. It must be a local thing.

It said Closed..but I rang buzzer and lady opened window and sold me one of their last donuts and a t-shirt for my Aunt Alice. I explained..Her and my Uncle Clarence owned the Mel-O-Cream donut shop in Jacksonville where the best donuts I have ever tasted were made !! Thank you for opening up for me. I can't wait to give my very special Aunt her gift !!!
