Update 11/21/23 My last visit to Mike And Rosy's pretty much destroyed my love for the place. Gone were all the bread options, you get white or nothing. The sandwich was grilled then steamed which is not the way of steaming for the past 45 years. The mayo was not liquified by the steam and the sandwich wat not awesome. Did not like! Will the real Mike and Rosy's please return.
As a teenager, my first car broke down in front of Mike and Rosy's during their grand opening week back in 1977. I have been coming back ever since. OK, it's expensive, perhaps even painfully so, but you pay for the quality. The sandwiches are steamed and juicy. If you get drips off your elbows when you eat, you are getting the full experience! Yes, this makes the bread soggy. Who cares? They rock! Service is loyal to New York Deli tradition; efficient, surprisingly fast, and not always friendly. My sandwich is a Turkey on light rye with Muenster. Extra Mayo and steamed to death. Second choice would be a Roast Beef and Swiss on dark rye with mustard and mayo and steamed to death. Awesome! Mike and Rosy's is a class act and far and away the best deli in the area. I really have only been to two delis that are better than Mike and Rosy's. They are Katz' in New York City and Shapiro's in Indianapolis. Springfield should be proud to have a deli that can even be compared to these...
Read moreSo, the food was delicious but there are no sides. I told the cashier/order taker that I had never been there. She was absolutely no help with their unorthodox system. There are people ordering and picking up at one register even though they have a counter 35 feet long. So, everyone is in everyone else’s way. Also, they have small containers of potato salad in a cooler that you can grab yourself but you have to remember to ask for a fork because they won’t give you one as they bag your stuff. I began to reasonably express my frustration with the cashier and immediately had 4 mouthy women in my face. So, I gave them some mouth back. That’s when the owner peeked around the corner. It’s a frustrating place that doesn’t care about you stumbling over other people to order and pick up a sandwich and can’t even slip a fork in your bag when you buy a container of potato salad. If you go in be sure not to express their lack of consideration because you’ll get your head bit off and then blamed for being the rude one....
Read moreThis sub shop is a must for anyone who wants a true Springfield experience. The delicious scents of the steamed subs when you walk in are so savory and smell super tasty! Go to the counter and submit your order, the attendant will write your order on the back of the bag you will receive. I usually get an 8inch turkey sub with Danish Butter cheese. DIVINE. After you’ve ordered, it is customary to walk around and check out the hot sauces, the many offerings in the fridge from special sodas, potato/pasta salads and cheesecake to a variety of chips, mustards, dips and cookies/candy. When your order is ready, listen closely as they will call out what you’ve ordered and come up to the counter to pay. Make sure to get a complimentary pickle, they have an excellent crunch. You can take it to go or in the back which is decorated with sports paraphernalia. Stop by as this is a delicious...
