We prefer thin crust and when we came across this restaurant's reviews while visiting Springfield and that they specialize in thin crust, we decided to give them a try.
We have yet to find a restaurant that gets thin " right "at home or in our travels. As soon as we were seated, our server asked if we knew what we wanted.
We kind of chuckled when we saw the tiny menu with only 2 types of salad , pizza and drinks on the menu. We guessed she figured it wouldn't take long to decide.
This is not your typical pizza restaurant with grinders, wings, and antipasto salads . They cut to the chase and do what they do best. Thin crust pizza.
The small salad is just that "very" small. The diced tomato on top was equivalent to maybe a half of tomato. If there are two people in your party, do yourselves a favor and get the shareable deluxe salad.
When we saw one go by, it looked more palateable.. you get a Kens dressing packet , 50 extra for more than one. Not a fan of commercial brands except Newman's Own at restaurant's because they give back to charity But this restaurant is bare minimum to keep overhead low im guessing by not serving in house made dressings. I expect packets for take out. Just my preference.
When you get the tiny snack size paper plate, you get concerned, the pizza size and slices will be tiny. But don't worry, you will be full after eating it. They cut into tiny square sizes. There are only two sized pizzas, a personal 9" and shareable 13".
We got 3 toppings, pepperoni, sausage , and mushrooms. It comes our piping hot and the toppings evenly placed. Everything stays on the pie nicely. Very flavorful and thin , just the way we love it.
Service was great. We got there at about 430 pm on Friday and by the time we left, every seat and booth was taken.
Bare minimum menus do really work when a restaurant gets their specialty perfect. If you enjoy thin crust pizza, this is your place to try. Theres a reason they have been...
Read moreWell today was the second time I had been here. I took my mom since she hadn't been to pizza house since she was a kid. We were asked by the owner nto never come back.
Now you may think we did something horrible, right? What could we have possibly done to get told to never come back?
Well let's set the stage.
My mom and I ordered drinks and a pizza. Then after a table that came in after we had ordered got their pizza we asked about ours. The owner came to us and said lunch is on me, explained the server never put our order in , and then asked if she could bring us salads.
We waited patiently while we ate our salads and finally after more than an hour we got our pizza. Which was burnt. The server that made the mistake brought it to us and told us that there wasn't a ticket for us that she knows of as well. Then the owner brought a ticket out charging us for a pizza. My mom asked her why she did since she had told us lunch was on her. The owner then took the ticket back and walked off angerly.
This should be where it all ended, but it's not. As my mom and I walked out the owner was mumbling under her breath about us. I caught it at the time enough so that I stopped and almost said something, but decided not to since I was with my mom. Then as we are getting in my car getting ready to leave the owner come out the door starring at us and makes hand gestures.
I had enough of this lady at this point and asked her if she had something to say. She came out to my car and today us to never come back. After harrasing us about...
Read moreIf you're a pizza lover and you're in the mood for something truly iconic, look no further than Pizza House, a historic gem that's been serving up incredible pies since 1958. Known for its mouthwatering, crispy cracker-thin crust, this place has earned a loyal following over the decades. The crust is the real star—light, crunchy, and perfectly crisp, it provides the ideal foundation for the savory toppings that are always fresh and flavorful. However, as much as the food shines, the service leaves something to be desired. During my visit, I couldn't help but notice a lack of attention from the servers. Despite being seated for a while, I never got a drink refill, and had to flag down a server just to ask for a to-go box. When it came time to pay the bill, I found myself chasing someone down for the check. It's clear that the restaurant's long history hasn't been matched by a modern approach to customer service.
While the pizza alone is worth the visit, the service could definitely use some improvement to match the fantastic food. Still, if you're craving a slice of history and a truly unique pizza experience, Pizza House is definitely a spot worth checking out. Maybe just get 2 drinks...
