We stopped to get myself and my granddaughter each a shake. Mine was just plain chocolate with no cherry and no whip. My granddaughter wanted a chocolate with banana shake. When we ordered the guy over the speaker said they only had banana syrup, not bananas, and we said that was fine. The guy repeated the order back over the speaker, and told us to come to the window.
We drove right up and he was a young man with a huge hickey and he ran our debit card. Then he left to what we assumed was to get the shakes. We sat there for a long time around 10 min. Finally a young lady came up to verify our order and give it to us. It was not the right order so we told her what we ordered and she turned around (kind of disgusted) and left. Another 5 minutes went by and the hickey guy returned with 2 shakes repeating the order as a chocolate shake and a banana shake. We told him no, the second shake was supposed to be a chocolate/banana shake. He got snippy and said, "I'm pretty sure that's not what you told me when you ordered" (he had confirmed the order twice). I got angry at being called a liar and forgot we'd paid already and we left.
We went to the Steak 'n Shake on north Glenstone and ordered the same thing. The order came out quickly and right and we got it with a smile. We left with our shakes and were at point of getting onto I-44 to head the 35 miles home, when we remembered we'd paid at the other store.
I started calling them and it took a long time to get through. When they answered I asked for the manager. When she came to the phone and I relayed my story, she said, "Were you just here with space buns?" (I was obviously not the only person who had received poor service that day.) I told her that I was a 60 year old woman and did not have "space buns".
She told me to come back tomorrow and the person who could "fix it" would be there. I explained that we don't live in Springfield. She said "I'm not allowed to do refunds." I told her I was unhappy with that answer because, again, we don't live in Springfield. She put me on hold and when she came back she said she'd received permission to refund our card, which was great. She told me to come back for the refund. I told her we were now on Hwy 65 headed north and were about a good 15 miles from her store and couldn't she refund the card without us returning. She said that's what we had to do, so we turned around and went back, got it refunded and FINALLY headed home again.
The manager was nice and met us at the window, handling the situation quickly. We will not, however, be returning to the south Glenstone location. Mistakes happen but that was ridiculous. And to be called a liar? That will NEVER...
Read moreIf I could give a zero I would. The manager on duty Tyler is a poor excuse. He was very very rude to not only myself bit an entire group of 7 . He closed down a 24 hour store because he felt he had been"screwed over" by the 2nd shift. He has complaining and said we we're lucky he had even stayed open. Here's how our experience started. We walked in to a dirty restaurant with only 3 other customers there and one waiteress. She said sit anywhere. We did. I got up and got menus, placemats and silverware for our table, not a biggie. She got us our drinks and my husband ordered coffee. She had to make it because there wasn't any. Another staff member was on her phone texting and then left. We ordered salad rather than fries and the manager brought out the salad and made a comment he had just made it. Mine had brown lettuce and we had no dressing. I asked for blue cheese and he replied they stopped carrying it, he had ranch. I replied I just had it there last week and I could see it in the cooler. I got up and requested 2 containers of ranch for the other 2 salads. Still no coffee. Our burgers come but the order of chicken was still cooking. Not a biggie. My son had ordered a chocolate shake that took 45 minutes before so at this point we ate ready to leave and no shake, so he asks for it to go. Then the manager yells. Well is there anything else you want and I respond some good service. I told him he was a poor excuse for a manager and taking care of customers should be his top concern. People can deal and I,understand slow food but poor service in a smoke filled restaurant is POOR MANAGEMENT ! He was shameful and when a lady asked if they were a 24 hour store he said yes but they were closing due to him getting the shaft and then was rude and told her off and the group that was with her. This is by far the worst I have ever been treated or have seen a manager treat customers in my life. When I said I would be calling he said, you do that but I will still have my job ! So I decided it was better to write a review so others could see how TYLER treats a grandma, wonder if his parents would be proud of their foul mouthed son. Shameful and very...
Read moreVery disappointed in my visit. I went around 3:30. Which from personal experience working in a food industry means that anything ordered around that time should be fresh. I've loved Steak and Shake fries for 30 years and needless to say this visit ruined that. I've never received a slightly uncooked, still cold container of fries. Yet I did. My Frisco melt was made in front of me but yet from the time it took me to grab my bag, walk out to my vehicle that was literally parked right behind the building which leads to a door. Opened my bag and started eating my not so hot burger. The patties were paper thin which is saying something considering they already make their patties thin. My strawberry shake tasted like nesquick strawberry syrup over vanilla ice cream. The pink coloring was liquid while the ice cream was still super thick. Meaning the amount of time they took to mix it wasn't long enough. There were only 2 orders. Mine and a drive thru that ordered after me. As expected I recieved my meal after the drive thru order was handed out. Yes I did have my order in first but like I said I've worked in food and understand that drive thru is priority. However it's upsetting when all your food but one item is done. Because ultimately that other food does get cooled down faster. I spent around $25 and it was the worst experience I've had with Steak and Shake. Unfortunately this makes the 3rd time I've ever been to this location and it will be the last. I might go to the other locations but as for me this one experience did ruin it for me. Along with the bad food, came the dirty restaurant. It's 3:30 on a Saturday. You only have 1 table, 1 take out and 1 drive order. So why were the floors dirty as all get out? Perhaps the staff that just stands around could be helping the cashier/ waiter with their duties. Just a thought. I'm sure lots of people will disagree and I'm okay with that. This is just my experience. The location on St. Louis street and National street is really the best location in Springfield. The employees are great and they...
