What a great way to start our weekend trip from Indy to Branson! We spent the night nearby and then searched on Yelp for a good breakfast and lunch spot along our route. We were detoured due to flooding on I-44. The reviews for Lewis Cafe were right on the money. This was a cute spot in a cute town. Some local places have placemats covered with ads for local businesses. But here they take it a step further, and the entire table top was permanently laminated over local ads.

I had the grilled chicken sandwich (added bacon and cheese). Nothing special, but well executed. Juicy chicken breast with fresh vegetables on top. My wife loved her omelette (ham, onion, tomato, mushroom and cheese). We both liked the cinnamon toast too. The biscuits and gravy were ok, but missing some flavor. Maybe a stronger sausage or something. Salt and pepper helped, but still not great. We finished off with some of the homemade pies. Cherry crumb, and Coconut Cream. Both were very good. I try to evaluate dessert with the question: is it worth the calories? Both of these were worth the effort it will take to work them off!

The seating divided into two rooms. One is all booths (tight for large person) and counter stools. The other side is all tables and chairs, and lots of them. The whole place was very clean (including the restroom), and very inviting. The staff was great. Friendly with everyone, but especially with the locals who they often welcomed by name.

Thank you Yelpers for the great reviews. I hope my review will convince others to make the short side trip off of I-44 for a great meal, at a good price in...

The Lewis café is absolutely outstanding. This is the place that you must not miss. I have been driving back-and-forth from California to Boston since 2010 and every single time I drive by St. Clair Missouri, I always stop in to make sure I go to the Lewis café to eat. You have to go in just a little ways from the interstate. This time I had their rib eye steak medium rare. The steak came with a salad, a cup of soup, fries and Garlic toast. $19.95 for all of this?? Good luck in finding another restaurant that will be willing to give you all of that for that kind of a price. Everything was absolutely delicious.

Let me start off by saying that the Lewis café owners have their own farm! This is where my steak came from. All IN HOUSE meat. It was cooked to perfection and it was absolutely fresh. The fries were just unbelievable. I am honestly not a person that particularly orders fries in general, but I do have to say these fries were unbelievably addictive. Omg! The coating on the fries...* sigh**The salad and a cup of soup are absolutely a welcomed addition...their yummy pies are JUST AWESOME.

I strongly recommend this place to locals and those who are driving across the country to make a point to stop at this place. YOU WILL BE MISSING OUT if you do not give this place a try. This is the perfect old diner that you would find in the 50s...

One of the worst dining experiences I’ve had recently. A friend and I went for breakfast on the weekend. We got there around 10:15am or so. It took several minutes for one of the people working to set us up at a table as they were busy talking with each other, even though they had a handful of tables open. We sat for about 20 minutes before we were approached by a server. We had simple orders- two of their most popular dishes. We were told lunch couldn’t be ordered until noon.

We waited and waited until about 11:20, when lunch orders were starting to be put up in the window. People who had gotten there way after us were getting their food. Another couple behind us had also been waiting about as long as we had and noticed the same thing. The couple said something to the staff, all of them acting like they didn’t care. The “manager” looked annoyed as the couple complained.

This is one of the rudest staff experiences I have ever encountered. Everyone who worked there looked miserable and preferred to focus on themselves and their conversations rather than providing service to the customers. Needless to say, both my friend and I, and the other couple left. Waiting over an hour for practically zero service and a sour vibe was not how I wanted to start off my weekend.

0/10- find a different place to...

We ordered one breakfast plate, one open roast beef plate and one Rueben special. They said the roast beef and breakfast plates were good. The Rueben was one up from the worst one I’ve ever had in my life…it tasted like what old, stinky feet smell like. I couldn’t hardly get half down but I didn’t want to offend my company. I absolutely do not recommend the Rueben. They have a very limited menu as well. We won’t likely revisit because $50 plus dollars for what we got isn’t acceptable. Service was good although we was the only people there so not busy at all. Atmosphere was good bc it was nice and quiet, lol. I’ve been there years ago and had a much better opinion, sorry I couldn’t rate it higher but I try to be fair. Do not recommend.
