China Star — Restaurant in St. Gabriel

The workers at this restaurant were very friendly however, the food is not good. Very disgusting. The restaurant gives you an option to order online or call in. I will never buy anything from here again first and last time. I order a chicken wing plate with shrimp fried rice and crab sticks. I order two meats because I never ate there and wasn’t sure how it would taste. Well baby let me tell you the chicken and the crab sticks was nasty. The shrimp fried rice was ok nothing to brag on. Chicken was not seasoned and the crab sticks was fake taste like some frozen food. I also order a tea and it was utterly disgusting come on BR get it together I been out here 4 years and still don’t know where I can get great Chinese food from a waste of $18. This is why there never no cars...

This place is surprisingly good. I've been coming here for years but I used to not be as impressed with it as I am now. I used to consider it just "okay", but I think I may have just been ordering the wrong things. Or maybe it's a different cooking staff. Whatever the reason, it's now my favorite place for Chinese food of any of the places in Baton Rouge, Denham Springs, or Walker.

The Hot & Sour soup is the best I've had anywhere, with strips of quality chicken, tofu, bamboo, wood ear, and plenty of hot peppers.

I feel maybe they switched owners, or management. This used to be the best Chinese food I’ve ever had…up until about a month ago. Everything changed. Many agree with me as well. People used to travel near and far for this place. Sauces taste different, in a bad way. The proteins looked and felt questionable…just a completely different preparation process. We each took one bite and threw everything away and picked up canes instead. I don’t know where the last staff went to but I would love to know…because the recipes are no longer what they used to be.
